Hot Music Friday Featuring Earl Sweatshirt, Mitski, Iggy Azelia and More

August is on its way out, but not before we give it a proper goodbye with another edition of Hot Music Friday. As we welcome another month and settle into the second half of 2023, it’s important to celebrate every minute of the summer, and so we’ve narrowed down a list of songs to help you stay in that zone.

This week, we bring you some newly harvested joints by Earl Sweatshirt, Mitski, Iggy Azelia and many more, so keep scrolling!

Hot Music Friday – August 25, 2023

“Sentry”– Earl Sweatshirt & the Alchemist (feat. MIKE)

It was only a matter of time before we got a full Earlchemist project, if not by popular demand then just by the forces of nature bringing these two geniuses together. Earl Sweatshirt and the Alchemist have given us our first taste of their upcoming album, and it is divine. We couldn’t have asked for a better song to open Hot Music Friday with than their new single with MIKE, so don’t waste another minute.

“Money Come” – Iggy Azalea

Say what you will about Iggy Azalea, but her confidence has remained firm at 100 since the start. Though that might rub some people the wrong way, it shows up in her music and has kept her brand of rap solid through the years. Her latest single is just more proof that she’s still got it.

“TESLA” – Lil Yachty

2023 has been Lil Yachty’s year. From dropping one of the most audacious LPs in hip-hop to a string of commercially successful singles, the guy’s on fire and it seems like he’s doing everything in his control to stay aflame. He’s made it on yet another Hot Music Friday list, so it’s clearly working.

“PARTy T1M3” – Tyga & YG

The power duo from SoCal has been stirring up anticipation for their joint album, and with each new single, the excitement increases tenfold. The past few drops have been absolutely dope, but they now have us in the palm of their hands. Hot Music Friday just won’t feel the same without a banger from Tyga and YG!

“Star” – Mitski

Mitski’s superpower is that she rarely ever misses, so you best believe her latest single has kept in tune with her near-perfect reputation as a musician’s musician. “Star” is just one more of countless reminders that she is without question one of the most tasteful and talented songwriters of the 21st century, and being on the receiving end of her material is truly a priviledge.

“Sticks and Stones” – Blur

We love anything Damon Albarn touches, but the latest Blur single is a little different in that guitarist Graham Coxon took over the vocals this time around. Before you get too skeptical, give this quirky new track a listen and you’ll almost certainly be won over before you get through it.

another triumph of ghetto engineering – Open Mike Eagle

We cover a lot of ground on Hot Music Friday, but it’s necessary that we throw in one pick of no-nonsense hip-hop on our list every week. When it comes to taking the craft seriously, no one compares to Open Mike Eagle — listen to his new album and you’ll see exactly what we mean.

Mommy – Be Your Own Pet

The new album by Be Your Own Pet rides on scandal and we love every bit of it. Be careful who you play this around, but once you have it on, it will bring out the maniac in you and we promise it’ll be the most fun you’ve had listening to rock music in a while. Without giving too much away, all we’ll say is that we saved (one of) the best for last.
