We’ve got you covered, as every week we are updating our Fresh Drops Friday playlist on Spotify.
The first week of 2024 has consisted of numerous drops from a vast variety of artists. Let’s dive deeper into some of the songs we deemed important to set out for the first ever Fresh Drops Friday.
Fred Again.. & Baby Keem “leavemealone” (Nia Archives Remix)
Renown English producer, DJ, and songwriter Nia Archives storms the new year strong. Her remix of “leavemealone” produced by Fred Again featuring Baby Keem, takes the drum and bass song to a whole other level. Named as “Junglist Sensation” by DJ Mag, her jungle twist on this track creates a whole new experience.
goddard. & Cat Burns “Wasted Youth”
The drum and bass producer and DJ, goddard. is one to watch coming out from Northamptonshire, United Kingdom. The up-beat rhythm contrasts the emotional lyrics, which speak of regret and reminisce the past, hence “Wasted all my youth on you.” Although the lyrics are emotional, the fast break-beats and heavy low-end beats will make you want to dance or help you get over a break-up.
Yaano & william light “Claim Our Back”
Critical Music’s Yaano is on a roll as he continuously produces tracks that are ear-catching. He starts the year strong by collaborating with musician and developer of a popular transient shaper plugin, william light. Together they produced a catchy fast tempo track playing at 172 beats per minute that you can add to your workout playlist to get pumped up.
Buunshin “not everything is your fault”
Ferry Mellegers AKA Buunshin a ground-breaking electronic producer and DJ from the Netherlands. According to his instagram, the not everything is your fault EP was the “biggest project to date and also the biggest evolution of my sound to date”. The subtle intro guides you with high melodies and leads up to a heavy basslines that continuously go back and forth between heavy and soft.
Cesco & Hamdi “Swing King”
The final track of Cesco’s latest EP, Up The Place, released through 1985 Music is named “Swing King” featuring versatile producer and DJ, Hamdi. The two produce a heavy bass track that samples Mason vs. Princess Superstar’s “Perfect (Exceeder).” Cesco and Hamdi combine their talents as you can hear the dubstep, UKG influence on the track while it meshes pop-like vocals with their sonic bass sound design.
Chase & Status feat. Stefflon Don “Selecta”
The seasoned duo from London, Chase & Status joins British rapper/singer, Stefflon Don, to create a track that blends drum and bass, dance, and reggae. The lyrics maintain the rhythm while incorporating break-beats and prominent basslines. You can hear the connection between the artists as Don refers to Chase & Status in the chorus, “Call di selecta fi play a dove cott.” The spark in the song is how seamlessly the different genres blend together tp create a powerful track.
Lucas Morais “DESOLATE”
Vastly skilled Lucas Morais is a DJ, producer, and artist. With his latest release comes melodic arrangements and heavy bass. Starting 2024 with the short of 4 minute track, the up-beat high-energy orchestration is one you would want to hear at a party or during a good workout.
Shayper “Iteration V1”
Shayper, a Norwich based producer and DJ’s latest release was for the first Dirtbox Recordings Tape Pack Series. Coming into the year releasing Iteration V1, the single with the funky beat progressively gets heavier. Shayper alongside The Fi5th are releasing new music on the first of every month for 2024. Check out Shayper’s first release and tune into the series on SoundCloud. You might see it appear on our Fresh Drops Friday’s playlist more often than not.
Profit “Thunder”
Profit is an all round entertainer who just released his first track of the year with Korsakov Music. Born in Russia, he’s a prominent figure all around Eastern Europe, a promotor in Moscow and is now in Holland working with Korsakov. Profit starts the year strong with this drum and bass original, and we definitely had to mention it for our first Fresh Drops Friday playlist. The track “Thunder” creates an atmospheric sound that fuses sonic sound designs with rapid break-beats, reminding you of playing a video game.
Leks “Skins”
Releasing his second EP with Yamatai Records, Leks gifts us 3 new fire drum and bass tracks. On the 5th of January, he set out his newest songs Liqourice, Near Misses, and Skins. Skins made it on our playlist due to its optimum sound composition and it’s ability to make us head bang.
