When Drake released More Life, he got a lot of things off his chest.
Sharing his struggles trying to make long distance relationships work on “Passionfruit”, opening up about his mother’s health concerns on “Lose You”. He even took the time on “Do Not Disturb,” to address Tory Lanez in more than just one bar, rapping
“If we do a song it’s like takin’ my kids to work with me. You overnight celebrity, you one day star, swear I Told You that I’m in this bitch for eternity. I am a reflection of all of your insecurities. Behind closed doors, a lot of 6 God worshipping.”
If you didn’t know, Tory Lanez government name is Daystar Peterson and the name of his debut album was titled I Told You.
The two have been trading jabs for the last couple years. Tory Lanez is on record saying Drake’s nickname for Toronto as “The 6” was not cool. While on “Summer Sixteen” Drake says “All you boys from The New Toronto want to be me a little.” – this is in reference to Tory Lanez movement called The New Toronto.
What is Drake Telling Us?
Also on “Do Not Disturb” Drake hints at the possibility of not releasing any more music for the rest of 2017.
“Takin’ summer off, cause they tell me I need recovery, maybe getting back to my regular life will humble me. I’ll be back in 2018 to give you the summary.”
If this means no more projects through 2017, this could make sense since he’s fresh off More Life. Does this mean not even featured collabs with other artists for the remainder of the year? Or does it mean he won’t release another album till sometime in 2018? (Drake very specifically classified More Life as a playlist.) I don’t know, but one or both of these things seems possible.
What’s your guys’ take? Will Drake do a couple features to keep his buzz active for the summer or is The 6 God going to pull a Frank Ocean and go completely ghost for the rest of 2017 to prepare for whatever is next? Leave a comment and tell us what you think.
