Portland, OR is home to a thriving local hip-hop scene. For years I have spoken the utmost respect for the music flowing from the City of Roses. While the city has received shine throughout the Northwest, the rest of the country has yet to catch onto the special sound brewing locally. I really don’t feel like this trend will continue with artists like Donte Thomas & Bocha.
Donte Thomas has been on our radar for sometime. He was featured on our Top 20 Northwest hip-hop tracks from 2016 and for good reason. This kid can spit. Now teaming up with fellow Portlandian, Bocha, the two are working on collaborative material. I must say, their first release is a win and they kept it all the way Portland grabbing Stewart Villain for the beat. Donte Thomas & Bocha are here to flex lyrically and keep the spirit of hip-hop alive. Just check out ‘PETUNIAS’ and get familiar.

“Coming up in a new era of music, many question the future of Hip-Hop as we know it. Two Portland natives in particular haven’t let the trending sound slow their momentum down or effect their craft in any way. Bocha & Donte Thomas bring you ‘Petunias’, the first single from their upcoming collaboration EP “Garden Boys”. The Garden Boys idea came from growing up in Portland. Originally, the Trail Blazers arena was known as the “Rose Garden”. If you’re from the city, you’ll know we don’t call it the “Moda Center”. The two of us came up with the concept to call the city where we’re from the “Garden”. Consider this as the first flower.”
