DJ X.O. is a name that’s been buzzing in the streets of Houston like a swarm of bees for the past few years. From the mixtapes he’s put together, beats on everyone’s project, and infectious singles that live up to one of his regular tags “X.O. like the drug.”
While X.O. has made a name with a more comercial sound in music, his real talent is the ability to just do music. Seriously, this dude has covered so many “sounds” with A1 production. the 7 Day Theory album he produced for Propane had some serious play in our office. That record is more of a soulful/sample type vibe. His latest offering Young Legend III goes numerous places. The emotional single features the Houston artists croonin’ over an electric guitar riff. Other songs see radio-friendly and commercial vibes but the clear stand out for me personally has been “Big Bank.”
The visual assisted single features an interpolation of the classic sample behind Geto Boys “Mind Playing Tricks On Me.” If you ask me, that’s one of the best hip-hop songs of all time and one of the records that put Houston on the map, for real. X.O. pays homage to where Houston has been in the process of showing where he can take the city’s sound.
