Over the past decade, DJ Beauflexx has been helping build the foundation of the EDM community around Spokane.
“The Beauflexx Story might belong in a book with chapters,” he tells me when asked how he got started as a DJ. “My love for music and bringing people together, fuels my fire. I’d say the final push was realizing I could turn my dreams into reality.”
As someone who is still dipping her toe into the EDM world, there is something comforting and inclusive about the sets Beauflexx puts together. He frequently references other genres using samples of rock, hip-hop, and pop music. Then he distorts it with typical electronic sounds and elements to create a whole new experience that eases new listeners into the genre and hypes up established fans.

Beau reminisced on one of his fondest memories within the Spokane scene, “The Barn Parties… Almost 10 years ago now, there’s been multiple barns, multiple parties. The vibes were always surreal, the gathering of everyone and the utter excitement they could bring. Those parties changed the scene here, created DJ’s, friendships, and more. Those won’t ever be forgotten.”
That is one aspect of the EDM community that I’ve always admired, the level of excitement is always off the charts. Also, I’ve seen complete strangers share intimate moments and become friends for life.
Out of all of the venues in Spokane, Beau said that the Knitting Factory brings the best vibes to his sets. “I have worked with them for years, the staff treats me like family. They have amazing food and playing on stage in front of all my friends and family, it doesn’t get much better than that.”

Cannabis and music have been friends for a long time. Since Beauflexx is an avid cannabis consumer, I wanted to find out which strains spark his creativity.
“I’m not much for dabs or pens, concentrates and such. I really only enjoy flower, wrapped up in a swisher sweet. I usually like to wrap up a cookies cross, closest to 50/50 hybrid. That gassy taste, that’s a little sweet always gets me. My favorite strain to get loose too would be a do-si-do.”
The EDM community is known for having hard drugs around at festivals and raves. I asked Beau if he thought cannabis being legal for recreational use has impacted the scene at all. “I definitely don’t think it has negatively,” he said. “To some degree, I’m sure it has helped. However, do I believe cannabis has impacted any scene fully, or can we tell fully? Probably not.”

Beau continued by saying, “I still believe many hold a stigma to cannabis being a drug, with federal classifications slowly moving in the right direction. I’d really love to go to an event and be able to enjoy cannabis in a similar idea to a beer garden, but a cannabis garden. However, the laws are still tight, people can’t really partake in the product at an event.”
“So the impact it’s made might be hard to judge until people really have a choice in what they partake in. I’d love to see cannabis lose the stigma, see people laughing full of smiles and positivity at events rather than three people carrying out their over intoxicated friend. We have lost too many lives and made too many shitty memories with drinking. I’d love to see cannabis replace that.”
On top of being a DJ, Beau helps run an event production company called

Not only is he one of the masterminds behind this event, but DJ Beauflexx will also be performing. This is more than the past few months of hard work. This event is a culmination of everything that Beauflexx has dedicated the past decade to build. “I’ve evolved so much, it’s crazy to think about who I was, where I have been, to where I am at now. I don’t think I would be anywhere close to where I am at now, without the music and the scene.”
“I’ve stopped drinking and doing drugs. I’ve become so focused and determined to reach my goals, it’s really been a blessing. My love and passion for the scene and the music has led to so many great things, without that love, passion, support, and memories… I’d be lost. It’s really made me develop myself in a fashion that I couldn’t have done anywhere else.”
