Starting with humane news, in September, Detroit allowed those with previous drug convictions to receive food stamps. Previously, drug convictions were the only sort of offense that would affect someone’s eligibility for food stamps.
Otherwise, news has been hit or miss. One man was shot more than 10 times at a redlight in September. Before the season set in, back in June, a man was arrested for using a submarine to smuggle drugs in and out of Windsor and Detroit. The Feds actually went so far as to use torpedoes against the man. The legend was found trafficking 265 pounds of cannabis. So what’s been going on in the city which truly inherited the spirit of the wild west? Well…
October in Detroit was a Shitshow
During October, my favorite month, the city saw buses stop running. After fares were suspended, things were made safer by limiting the number of people allowed on the bus by half. Still, as a regular busser in the city, things aren’t perfect for the driver. One Detroit driver died from the virus earlier this year, and many others were hospitalized.
About a week later, 13 were charged in a plot to kidnap our governor Whitmer. Then, on October 12th, a Detroit gas station clerk killed a citizen with an AK-47. Days later, a woman came out and reported that a well-known Pastor had urinated on her on a plane.
It’s not all bad news, though.
Detroit’s first cider mill, Detroit Farm and Cider, opened up for business in October on Woodrow Wilson & Lawrence, bringing some of fall’s favorites right into Wayne county. Leandra King, a local, and owner of the cider mill, loved the experience of going out to these Michigan favorites but didn’t want to go beyond the city to experience it. Now she offers the experience right at home.
Outside of Detroit city, Novi got its first car vending machine, which you can figure out for yourself. Use a giant token to put into a machine, and then have an elevator go up and pick out your car for you. It’s weird as hell, but hey, we have it now.
Tune in Again for November Nonsense in Detroit
Next we’ll be recapping November, a month where already an Amazon driver accidentally wedged their vehicle into a golf cart tunnel, Macomb saw David Spano, rest his soul, die as a 25,000 pound mold fell on him, the virus ravages across the state, and another vaccine trial comes to the state.
Fortunately, some humanity is shining through, like always, as even Detroit’s TCF Center is leasing their lower level as a homeless center throughout the winter months.
