We finally have a new Cory Tate single! Many of you Seattle hip-hop heads already know Cory as Ripynt from previous projects. For those of you that don’t, he’d probably prefer it that way. This is because he is back to making music for himself and on his own terms. Which has allowed his focus to shift to what all real emcees are in it for, killing beats and feeding them to the beast within.
The irony of that is, his life now resembles the very piece of American pie he was speaking on in his single “Cruise Control”. So now, full circle, he continues to write this chapter of his story and career. Tate, a father, and a successful career man has a new perspective and priorities. Ones that are on display with the new single, “Speakeasy”. Cory is clearly not looking to make new friends with this one.
Consistently a perspective driven artist that isn’t going to ever pander to an audience, Tate meets expectations on this track. So, with the gloves off and no fucks left to give, he hilariously pokes fun at rap culture, pop culture, and the absurdity of their current state. This new Cory Tate single is real hip-hop folks and he is painting memes like pictures with classic boom bap cadences.
The beat produced by Willie Staxx moves for you with that particular swing that leaves emcees like Cory enough space so he can put that flavor in your ear. This song’s appeal is driven by a willingness and ability to say what many of us are already thinking. “Speakeasy” is a worthy slap and should move into your streaming rotation promptly.
When talking with Cory I got some insight into what is fueling this new content. It is not about getting money, going on tour, or getting clout. This is all about the art for him, he is doing it for himself now. Forget sales and exposure, if you are real music person you can feel it when someone isn’t doing it for the love any more. That’s not the case here at all, for Cory, his music is for him. It’s coming from a love for the art of lyrical expression and the feeling of exchanging energy with the track and the audience. This is all gas, I heard some other things are on the horizon so make sure you follow and subscribe.
