Life comes at you fast sometimes. The waves of emotion can hit hard and sometimes it feels like your drowning. For creatives, art can be the liferaft that carries us to safety. Corbin Louis poured his soul into his debut album Let’s Share a Bullet and it shows. From the beats to the raw auto-tuned delivery, this album feels like a chapter out of Corbin’s diary, relaying confessions of a confused drug-addicted young adult while trying to find their way as a struggling artist.
Corbin hired heavy guns for his labor of love. Sendai Mike and Elan Wright had their hands all over the mixing, mastering, and production. The beat selection is outstanding. A strong mix of acoustic and electric guitars among more standard hip-hop architecture with a touch of emo-grunge creates a somber project dripping with emotions. “Desperado Song” and “Vamonos” stand out as major musical achievements for a debut project.
This tone and subject matter is incredibly heavy and dark. But this album is a great reminder that being a human is incredibly messy and complicated. There is a lot to be learned from the heaviest moments of our life and soaking in the darkness will only make you appreciate the light of the dawn that much more.
