Collie Buddz’s new album Hybrid is out now and he couldn’t have promoted it any better! He gave 1,000 Domino’s pizzas to the assumably fairly-stoned crowd at the Cali Roots 2019 Festival. Fans were stoked as they passed around the pie boxes as he played his song “Good Life.“ Certainly, free pizza, good vibes, and reggae music is a good life.
My View On Hybrid
I know I’m super late on this one y’all! It gave me a chance to listen to the album. On the first listen, I wasn’t too keen on it since I’m more of a roots reggae/reggae rock fan. However, there are a few songs I can put on my playlist from this album.
My top two would have to be “Love & Reggae” and “Legal Now” since I feel, it has that roots sound that I prefer. This album is loaded with features from popular artists like; Tech N9ne, Dizzy Wright, Johnny Cosmic, Russ, and Stonebwoy, to give a little something for a diverse audience. I was a bit underwhelmed with the song, “Everything Blessed,” featuring Midwest rapper, Tech N9ne. Tech did his thing but the song itself was just a little dull and monotonous. I would have liked to hear something about eight or nine on the Rictor scale for a Tech feature. Songs “Bounce It,” “Bank” and “Love & Reggae” already hit over a million listens on Spotify.
Overall, I feel Hybrid is a good album with plenty of classic-Collie combined with songs filled with the opportunity to reach the younger generation. This is Collie Buddz’s fifth album after blowing up after his debut in 2007. He has produced plenty of hits including; “Come Around,” “Blind To You,” and “Mamacita.” Catch him in Redmond when he ‘comes around’ this summer on tour stopping at Marymoor Park with Rebelution, June 29th.
