The once beloved hero of Hip-Hop had one of the hardest fall offs in music history, yet he might be making a big comeback with his new album Star Line
“The Big Day” was Chance’s Worst Day
Chance the Rapper’s famous line “I met Kanye West, I’m never going to fail” on Ultralight beam has quite honestly aged like milk.
The Acid Rapper was one of the most beloved artists in the 2010s period. The Chicago MC released debatably two of the best mixtapes of all time with “10 day” and “Acid Rap”. His album “Coloring Book” won 7 grammys and he did all that without a label. With all this momentum, talent, and loving fan base, it seemed like Chance was setting himself up to be one of the best to ever do it.
This was all until his debut studio album “The Big Day” which left fans disappointed and shocked because of how badly different it was from his previous works.
“The Big Day” had a star studded cast of features from Nikki Minaj, Smino, Gucci Mane, Megan the Stallion, Lil Durk, and many more. Yet the album flopped so badly it left many of his fans bashing him on the internet and many people saying it was the end of his career.
Famous Music critic Anthony Fantano even gave the album a zero stating it was one of the worst albums he had ever listened to.
He has an argument.
The album felt sloppy, rushed, and bland. There was nothing that stood out and featured some of Chance the Rapper’s worst songs he has ever produced in his career. It was a major step back from all his other works, and Chance completely changed his sound for the worst on this album.
Many fans on the internet mocked Chance for how bad the album was. One of the biggest jabs towards the artist was the constant mentioning of his wife. Fans would begin torching Chance the Rapper again in 2023 because of a video that surfaced on the internet of him getting twerked on in Jamaica from another woman. He would later divorce his wife and these events would only add fire for many critics and further push the idea that Chance the Rapper had become the laughing stock of Hip-Hop
The album killed his career and the Chicago MC dropped off the face of the Earth. He did not release any music for three years and focused on other endeavors
The Big Comeback
Chance the Rapper has now released 4 singles in the last four months and has given many fans hope. It seems the Chicago MC is going back to what fans love and made him the superstar he once was. The single released in May “Together” is a step back in the right direction for Chance the Rapper and his fans. From the gospel inspired beat to his nasally punchlines, it sounds like the old Chance.
Now, this is not him retaking the rap game like he did a few years ago ,but it is a step in the right direction. He is still rapping about his family in the song, but it is leaps and bounds better than his previous works.
His most recent single “Bad Boys 2” was released on August 16th and it is something that needs to be heard.The beat to the song plays triumphant horns throughout and features Joey Burp, and he gives an intense performance. Joey honestly steals the spotlight on the track but Chance definitely gives a great performance as well.
Star Line Might Save Chance’s Legacy
From the looks of it, Chance the Rapper will probably never go back to his old sound. However, his most recent music doesn’t seem as rushed and has a little bit more character than the “Big Day”. The music he recently released is nothing compared to the peak of his artistic ability, but if he gets anywhere close to that many people will be satisfied. His new album “Star Line” was inspired by his trip to Ghana and it looks like he will be addressing all the drama that has happened since 2019.
All we can do is hope and wait to see if Chance the Rapper can beat the falloff allegations.
