In case you missed the dopest movie trailer I’ve seen in a hot minute (hour might even be the correct wordage here), we have it right here! Check out the trailer to the new N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton movie! The intro to this trailer is straight up legendary with Dr. Dre and Ice Cube reminiscing through their old neighborhoods. This flick looks like it could potentially also have makings to becoming the dopest ‘rap flick’ of all time. I truly hope the social importance behind the group and their name is not lost in the hype for this film. America is in a time where we NEED power players to step up and people to open their eyes. I don’t want to get to political but groups like N.W.A. are so important not just to hip-hop but the culture of this country, and

The Rainier Beach boys basketball team has had much success since Jamal Crawford stepped foot into the south Seattle high school. Since the days of Jamal’s killer crossover the Seattle powerhouse has continued to develop many of Washington state’s most notable players. Since their 47-45 victory over Eastside Catholic as state champions in 2014, the Rainier Beach team has battled its way through a long season and recent victories over Garfield high school and Bellevue saw them win the Sea-King 3A title. These wins catapulted them from a #34 national ranking to #25 and is exciting for the team as they prepare for major tournaments at the state and national levels. Lead by senior forward and Washington signee Dejounte Murray, Rainier Beach is on its way to competing for its fourth consecutive state title.

Tacoma’s own Lil Ripp releases his newest project GDSC (Grind Daily Shine Crazy). Lil Ripp drops another solid mix tape and teams up with All Money In’s Dj VIP. Although he has some real dope tracks there is a little inconsistency within the quality of recordings on a few tracks. If Ripp keeps his grind the same and continually ups the quality and cohesiveness he is going to be trouble and make himself one of the most slept on artist in the NW.

Mikey Vegaz (#OV3) goes in over an instrumental off J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive on ‘January 12th.’ It should be widely noted that Mikey is one of my favorite rappers from the Northwest and should never be slept on, but this jam is dope. Mikey combines bars, stunting, and dropping some life jewels all in one. This is a leak off the upcoming Oregoon Vol. 3 (which we will have when it drops!).
Producer and instrumentalist, Kevin Lavitt, releases his first release from his upcoming self-produced debut project ‘Planets’ entitled “Night Is Over” featuring long time friend and collaborator Sam Lachow. This is a nice smooth jam that fans of Lachow and music will dig, check it out!

Phase 1 of the lineup was just announced last Friday and USC did not disappoint with artists 12th Planet, Aly & Fila, Audien, Brillz, Cedric Gervais, the Chainsmokers, Delta Heavy, Neelix, Seven Lions, and Zeds Dead filling the bill. This is one of the most impressive lineups I’ve seen since I’ve been attending USC shows; there is something for every musical taste.
