For his first album in nearly three years, Big Sean is choosing to make amends, share introspective moments, and inspire others. The project entitled Detroit 2 arrives on September 4th. D2 sees Sean Don returning to the root of his inspiration, a bit of a Sankofa moment. In an announcement trailer, Sean states “[Detroit] is for real a mentality.” The shift in direction can instantly be understood with the unveiling of the first single, “Deep Reverence”, featuring the late Nipsey Hussle.
The highly anticipated track, produced by Hit-Boy and G-RY, highly follows its preview back in March. The record is one of the most personal songs from Big Sean to date. Sean reveals his battles with mental health, his rumored beef with Kendrick Lamar, while Nispey kicks street knowledge, with Sean closing out the track with a tribute.
If it ain’t Nipsey blue, it’s Detroit blue / This that Detroit 2
Lyrics from “Deep Reverence” by Big Sean featuring Nipsey Hussle
I’m bringin’ it back to the hood like D-Boys do, gone.
The official tracklist for Detroit 2 has not been released, but a previously released trailer hints at stars-studded appearances from Jhene Aiko, Young Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, Post Malone, and A$AP Rocky. The album executive producers include Hit-Boy and Kanye West.
