BBD Yella Is The New Artist Out Of Spokane, WA Making Rapid Moves

BBD Yella Is The Newest Artist Out Of Spokane Making Rapid Moves

BBD Yella, originally from Pine Bluff, Arkansas is an artist coming out of Spokane, Washington that’s leveling up quick. Just getting into rap within the last 6 months, Yella has already garnered the attention of big-time labels through his song “Situations,” which has garnered over 26,000 plays on SoundCloud, and won the Coast 2 Coast live Artist Showcase.

Yella has attained this level of success so quickly because he raps about real shit. He’s been through the loss of three family members. Two of them being his mother and a younger brother who he was extremely close to. But through this Yella has pulled through. Through music, he’s found a release where he can talk about his life, what he’s been through but, also where he is going. Yella is also a young father looking to give a bright future to himself and his son.

Inspired By His “Situations”

BBD Yella’s pioneer track “Situations” is a South-inspired banger where Yella raps about feeling “stuck in a situation.” But despite that, doing what you have to do to get out of that situation and better your life and get that bag. BBD Yella is one of the few real ones in today’s new age rap. He’s not the type that’s going to sell out or do what others say he’s gonna rap about what he want’s to rap about. It’s going to be better than that over-commercialized stuff playing on the radio.

He makes this clear in the track when he says, “artists sellin’ souls just for the fame/ Imma keep on hustlin’ I know to maintain.” With a dope ass beat, a smooth and catchy chorus, and hard-hitting bars it’s easy to see why this track won Yella Coast 2 Coast and has catapulted his career.

RMR: What got you into creating music?

Yella: Just what I’ve been through in life and wanting to create a better situation for my self and my kid and wanting to bring my family together.

RMR: If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be?

Yella: Dababy because he from North Carolina and knows what I’m talking about but he ain’t a bad dude, he ain’t the one trying to bring the pressure people bringing the pressure to him, and he take care of it. Roddy Rich too I fuck with him tough.

RMR: How has your personal music taste helped you evolve as artists?

Yella: It matters a lot from the typa style I came from and where I’m from, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and I draw a lot of inspiration by looking at other rappers that know what I been through, that know my side.”

RMR: Using your platform as an artist what would you like to accomplish outside of music?

Yella: My family is kinda torn apart right now because a some things happened back in the day where my cousin killed one of my uncles and it was an accident but it broke my family up a little bit. We been trying to bring it back and I act like a mediator for my family so I just wanna be able to put my family on in whatever talent it is they have.

RMR: how has the move from Arkansas help you to advance your career?

Yella: Man, I can’t even explain bruh because being there it just feels like your trapped, it’s like there’s no other state around and it’s just fields with nothing to get hyped about. But out here there’s just more you can do here, you don’t have the racism, and it’s really helped me, financially I’m straight and I wanted to do that because it helped me with my kid.

RMR: How has your creative vision changed since coming to Washington?

Yella: Oh man, a whole lot too, because you see other things that make you think and make you want to express your self in a different way other than being violent because back home that’s all you see and hear.

RMR: When you aren’t making music, what do you like to do for fun?

Yella: Well for sure you already know I like to smoke, I’m blowin man, always. And I fuck with the video games and chillen and we all gotta make a living to eat so I also be working out at Keystone automotive. But yeah man, playing video games, smoking, and writing, staying in the studio.

RMR: What was the biggest thing you’ve had to overcome while chasing your dreams as a musical artist?

Yella: I gotta say man if you check out my songs you gonna already know, losing my mom and and my brother in a year span, I never thought I experience that kinda stuff. My mom was killed by her husband and was missing for 4-5 days, my brother was killed in a drive by with his baby in the car and I brought him out here to get away from all that and it still happened so I say trouble is everywhere but you just gotta watch your and always be prepared.

RMR: what was the experience like at Coast to Coast and what were your initial thoughts and feelings after winning?

Yella: So on the way, you know it’s a four hour drive, so you know we smoking blunts, chilling and I’m just looking into the sky thinking about my brother and my mom because I lost my mom first about 2 years ago and then 11 months after I lost my baby brother. So ya know, It’s just been kinda hard on me but I knew they was looking down on me, they my angels. And when I got there, ya know I got the bubble guts as soon as they called my name but I just shot a lil’ prayer up man and did what I what I know how to do, just talked to the people man and they liked it, I won.

RMR: If you weren’t making music, what do you think you’d pursue as a career?

Yella: Just really trying to be an entrepreneur because now people try to get over on you so much so you gotta become a independent person all around whatever you do so you always have that back up plan. Even know I want to how a bunch of businesses like me and brother wanted to open a dog kennel and I still want to do that.

RMR: How did you come up with your name BBD Yella?

Yella: Man, it’s funny I was in Seattle with a few homies and my girl and we was chillin and my girl said something like “sumnsumn‘ daddy.” Like aahh you the big boss and your girl calling you daddy, and she was like “you should use that” and I was like “well my name already Yella,” so I added the BBD (Big Boss Daddy), and yellow is my favorite color, BBD Yella.

RMR: What do you have coming up for in the future?

Yella: Well from me winning Coast 2 Coast live I get to go to Miami and mingle this year and then next year I get to compete for the $50,000. Then August 20th my album Long Live KB drops, and that date is significant because the girl he was seeing at the time, that’s her birthday. Long Live KB.
