Damn, it smells like a reggae concert up in here! While working in the Washington cannabis industry, I’ve found the local scene is growing rapidly. There’s just something about toking up and listening to this joyous music that brings people together. That is my ultimate goal, to bring people together. I have met so many great musicians, technicians, photographers, managers, journalists, cannabis influencers, etc. Naturally, I want to share these experiences with you!
Reggae On The Rise
Ever since Bob Marley hit American radio stations, reggae music has had an impact on our culture with his message of peace and unity through music and cannabis. Marley is a symbol of hope and love to some, a chronic pot smoker to most and has inspired many people and musicians alike here in the states. Yet, beyond the music, reggae has itself become a culture of love and a stand against what is unjust with the courage to fight back peacefully. This message has allowed the reggae to flourish and it has transcended genres and nations all across the world.
Reggae has been on the rise with the legalization of cannabis and its modern psychedelic progressive-style. Bands like; Rebelution, Iration and Slightly Stoopid, are the offspring of Sublime who first bought the “California-style” to the mainstream back in the early ’90s. Now, these bands are selling out shows and headlining festivals all over the world with popular Jamaican artists like Alborosie and Stephen Marley, son of Bob Marley. I will dive more in-depth with local and popular reggae as we go. For now, check out Rebelution’s “Celebrate,” which is a thank you to their loyal fans and exemplifies how reggae music welcomes all walks of life.
