Air Force veteran, Anthony Clark, is trying for a second time to take over longtime U.S. Rep. Danny Davis’ seat. The 37-year-old candidate took it to the next level when he put out a campaign video on Monday that shows him smoking cannabis. It’s his intention to push for nationwide legalization if he takes over office, per the Chicago Sun Times.
Clark became a firm advocate of cannabis after his honorable discharge from the military after a shooting in Seattle in 2007 that left him wounded. When later moving to Illinois, he was given his medical cannabis card after being diagnosed with PTSD, as well as Behcet’s disease. “Cannabis has always been there for me throughout my life,” Clark said to a few fellow residents of the Chicago-area during the taped smoke session.
He went on to say that cannabis has enabled him to “interact with society and deal with the pressures that society often brings upon you.” The shorter, more edited down version of the campaign smoke session video was then put on Facebook. Clark even went on to say that “cannabis saved my life. It continues to save my life,” while citing that he’s now a daily user of cannabis products.

There’s a noticeable shift in the public’s opinion on cannabis as legalization spreads across America. With legalization hitting Illinois in January 2020, it’s evident that Chicago will get legal cannabis no matter what. But, Clark is adamant in letting the public know that Danny Davis has done nothing to push this agenda or legislation. Clark begged the question—“did he fight for it? Was he bold? Was he out front? Was he extremely transparent about it, like we were? No.”
