Andra Day's new single is full of passion

Andra Day Returns With Remarkable Impassioned Single “Where Do We Go”

2015 opened up doors for Andra Day as she showcased her stunning vocals to the world with “Rise Up”, her debut single. The Grammy award-winning R&B singer dominated radio stations around the world with the critically acclaimed and commercially successful song. The hopeful anthem became a backdrop for multiple emotional pop culture and historic moments such as Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. After a film debut and multiple motion picture soundtracks, Andra Day is back with her slow-simmering sincere single, “Where Do We Go”.

Part of her upcoming album “Cassandra”, named after herself, the five-minute track rides back into what fans loved about Day, to begin with. Much like her R&B and neo-soul counterparts like Ari Lennox, Corrine Bailey Rae, and Lianne La Havas, Day has grown into the contemporary sound that has algorithmically created success. The track is stripped back at first focusing on Day’s vocals over a gentle groovy bass and up-tempo drums. As the song progresses you get more of Day and more eclectic productions that hypnotize you into having the song on loop.

“I’m just passing through your neighborhood/From down on Woodman,” Day sings to a lover as she wonders about how and where in time they separated. For Day the relationship seems to hide from her, but in her head it still all seems so fresh. She entails small details that seem to feel like a supercut from a film. Her honest bravado is truly explained towards the bridge where she repeats “You’re all I want” to the listener, hoping the lover is one of them.

Day’s second studio album has no release date set but is said to drop sometime in 2024, she is soon set to perform the Black National Anthem at this year’s Super Bowl. This lead single sets a new era and quality for Andra Day compared to her debut album which featured a much similar tone and aesthetic to Amy Winehouse’s jazz work. Though Day’s gospel background and training shine quite sharply no matter what, this single could easily be paired with something from Solange Knowles or even Erykah Badu.
