Queens emcee Action Bronson is back with a host of collaborators on Only For Dolphins. The full-length follow-up to 2018’s White Bronco arrives September 25th via Loma Vista. Fans can expect standout production from familiar partners The Alchemist, Daringer, Dj Muggs, and Harry Fraud. Less familiar to some, however, may be the slimmed-down Bronson himself. The rapper has dropped close to one hundred pounds over the course of this year.
Discussing the origins of the album concept, Bronson explains in a statement, “The dolphin is one of the most intelligent creatures ever created on whatever planet we’re on. They have their own way of communicating. They have nuance and intangibles like we do.” Action likens the mammal to a multi-talented “five-tool” baseball player, continuing, “…the only people who understand me are those five-tool players, those higher beings who are on the same telepathic wave as me.”
White Bronco Slims Down
Bronson teased Only For Dolphins with a trio of lead tracks. “Golden Eye” is a bouncy, reggae-infused joint. On “Mongolia,” he teams with Meyhem Lauren over traditional Turkish instrumentals. “Latin Grammys,” with its 70’s cowbell funk sound, will sound most familiar to longtime fans. Accordingly, Dolphins is also laced throughout with the squeaks and squawks of a certain aquatic mammal.
Action’s familiar swagger and wild storytelling are present as well. Across twelve tracks he swings from chandeliers, fights and supplexes his enemies, takes psychedelics, and speeds around in expensive cars. Indeed, they are fitting plotlines for the star of an ‘Action’ movie.
In addition to the music, fans who pre-ordered the physical album had a chance at Bronson-designed dolphin plush toys. The Only For Dolphins rollout also includes a food pairing. His partnership with New York’s Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream continues and will produce pints of Only For Dolphins Ice Cream.
