Goldenbeets is a hip-hop producer currently living in Portland, Oregon who has been making beats since 2013 when he was in middle school. Recently he’s changed up his relationship with music. He isn’t making the maximum amount of money possible, but now has more agency in what he’s doing and the kind of music he wants to make.
When making beats Golden is very routine oriented, unlike many people in the rap game he enjoys getting up early. He’ll make his coffee, maybe read a bit or dig for samples. With a folder full of options to sample, he’ll try to flip something, or make a melody or sample chop to send to another collaborator.
Liking to be very relaxed and in his zone, Golden will have his coffee, a little wine, and maybe a corner of an edible. But he will tell you “ultimately the sample leads me where I need to go.”
This laid back style definitely comes through in his latest beat tape “Sommelier” featuring 10 beats of absolute vibes. Drawing from inspirations like MF Doom, Dilla, and Madlib, Goldenbeets creates a tape that makes any day feel like Sunday.
What Is Day One Entertainment ?
Day One Entertainement is an artist management group that Goldenbeets is apart of alongside other notable artists such as Campana, Donte Thomas, Bocha, and more. A true conglomeration of like-minded artists who want to make quality music and export it to a larger scale.
AP (@dayoneap) started the company and since then Jimmy, aka JB (@dayonejb), has become an equal partner. AP does more of the day-to-day management while JB does more of the A&R work. They’ve become known as a group that will speak their mind a little bit, but always come from a good place. They’ve started a real wave in the Portland hip-hop scene with Golden having visions of using Day One to bring Portland, Tacoma, and Seattle together to create quality music and brighten that spotlight on the region.
