10. Kaskade – Hot Wheels

House

Glitchy, poppy and techno, but a house beat before anything. Kaskade has a reputation of being a consistent DJ, in that all of his singles have this blank white album art with the title of the track. Kaskade appears to put all his focus into his music itself, and the result is pretty damn dope. Be sure to check out Kaskade for yourself, because he’s also appearing at a lot of events this year.

9. SHARPS – Everybody

The EDM Fresh Drops playlist wouldn’t be the hype ritual it is without weekly shipments of Brostep bass drops. SHARPS impressed us with his ruthless, immediately-brain-gouging track Everybody. A breakdown that clamps down hard and thrashes like a coked up alligator.

8. Liquid Stranger, LUZCID – Snow Melt

Chillout/Future Bass/Atmospheric

You can’t take up a name like Liquid Stranger without making some real fluid sounds. That’s exactly what he and LUZCID did, though, in their track Snow Melt. This isn’t exactly another Spaceboss, it’s barely Garage in fact. This song is way more mellow than most of Liquid Stranger’s hit releases, but that’s more than okay.

Snow Melt opens right up with peaceful sample work and upper frequency synths and percussion. Not before long, though, this piece opens up into a beautiful frisson-inducing composition that could easily paint a picture. 7. Erick the Architect, Baauer, FARR – Let it Go (Baauer Remix)

Trance-hop

This Baauer mix really hits different. Let it Go by Erick the Architect and FARR becomes a total club chillout vibe under his influence. Nonetheless, the song clocks in at a trance tempo and folds through several forms. It’s a really pleasant experience, and we definitely suggest you check out all three artists involved.

6. Deijuvhs – Butterfly

Drum n’ Bass/Microfunk

A new face enters the EDM Fresh Drops playlist. This British musician calls himself the Underground King, and he might have a shot at the throne too even. His song, Butterfly, is a modern take on age old DnB and pop themes, and it slaps on a whole new level.

Deijuvhs deserves praise for being able to create hardcore, happy music without it turning into Happy Hardcore. Drum n’ Bass, a typically aggressive genre, occasionally sees positively connoted tracks like Butterfly that can take all that furious energy and make some real uplifting shit.

5. Seppa – Boosted

(Future Bass/Two-Step Garage)

I’ve waited a long time to get Seppa on this playlist. Formerly known as Duskky, this is a DJ you would simply be a fool to not check out. Boosted is a perfect sample of his style as well.  “More” by Seppa is another great EP to showcase more of his crazy beats.

The song might as well be drunk for you; slurring about and pulling on and off of the beat like he owns the place, Seppa knows how to take what Dubstep pioneers were thinking and flip them off with it. This artist is a great addition to any IDM, Dubstep or Future Garage playlist.

4. SNAILS – Slime Zone

Okay, what even is the “Slime Zone?” What’s up with SNAILS and, well, snails, anyway? This goo-loving maniac has created something so horrendous with Slime Zone that it shot itself into the top 5 of Fresh Drops this week. It’s pretty silly when you think about, too; how would a snail even attempt two-stepping? We’ll have to leave that science to SNAILS for now.

This song practically opens with a warning. “YOU ARE ENTERING THE SLIME ZONE,” followed by a blaring siren. Next thing you know, the whole mix is being scrubbed like a greasy pan, and so is your brain. It’s a furious bass drop, maybe one for the centuries, even. Especially if we’re all enslaved by slugs in the future, which SNAILS seems to be predicting as well in his Spotify Canvas.

3. Nia Archives – Crossroads

It’s like Corinne Bailey Rae spent a summer festival hopping. Nia Archives is a musician and also a beautiful vocalist, and she has created a very precise and meticulous canvas of breaks and bass with Crossroads. Much like Deijuvh’s track we discussed earlier, this is a more upbeat DnB track and that earns it a lot of merit.

Artists like Nia Archives fall into a hall of fame for people who look to make it all their own. In other words, these such artists, like Orchid and Zouj from previous articles, are making their own beats and using their own voice together to define their own, individual sound. So take a look into Nia’s mind with Crossroads, and if you like it, hit up her other stuff cause a bunch of other new tracks just dropped.

2. JAWNS – Detonator

Hard Trap/Neurofunk

Oh this? This little three minute track? So glad you asked.

This is an unadulterated dose of sheer energy. Detonator by JAWNS easily has the best drop out of all the tracks on the playlist right now AND it’s not even a dubstep track. That’s why it’s in second.

Words cannot really describe just how dope this song is, so make sure to check JAWNS out for yourself, preferably in a gym or large space. Big Doom Slayer vibes, if rip-and-tear is your style. JAWNS figured out how to make a bomb out of a song with Detonator, stealing Brostep’s eventual legacy, so great job to you, bro, for real.

1. voljum – components

IDM/Experimental

It’s like waking up one day in a cyberpunk jazz café, and realizing that you’re actually a thaumaturgic robot who brews THC coffee for a living. Admittedly, this is a subjective approach to components by voljum, but that’s the world it put me in. Who knows where it’s gonna send you.

IDM is built to replace the bridges between genres with solid ground, eliminating the gap entirely. This song is jazz, its dubstep, its trance, its contemporary and its also hip-hop and Bossa nova. It’s all of these things more comfortably introduced than many other DJ’s have managed in the past. That’s the glory of IDM, and the brilliance of voljum, who you should definitely check out here.
