Skrillex has been giving us new music lately. Following his “Butterflies” single, “Too Bizarre” is his new experimental House collaboration with Starrah and Four Tet. The new strange single pairs Swae Lee with Siiickbrain, aka singer, model, and writer Caroline Miner Smith. With an equally bizarre video to match, this new single showcases some of Sonny Moore’s emo roots while still using Swae Lee’s pop-rap sound to ground it throughout.
The music video has a contagious opening that prevails the new wave of punk-rock emerging within the modern hip-hop sound. Swae Lee reprises his “Black Beatles” rockstar role with Skrillex starting off the song with a thumping heavy bassline. Serving as the two driving forces in the song, Swae Lee’s voice carries the melody while Skrillex’s bassline keeps you moving forward.

As the song builds for two minutes, you settle into this edgy vibe that still has incredible pop sensibilities. Then suddenly, you’re hit with this screaming interlude from Siiickbrain that is befitting of a nostalgic hardcore cut. By the end of her visceral vocal interlude, you’re seamlessly brought back into the driving Pop and House that carries the song. Building up to a huge sound that’s reminiscent of a heavier The XX, this is one of the more interesting tracks you’ll hear in the EDM world this year.
You’ll see an eclectic bunch of hipsters filling the room in Skrillex’s new music video for “Too Bizarre” featuring Swae Lee and Siiickbrain. The music video has an overarching Fight Club vibe that brings serious energy throughout. There’s something new to catch every time you play through these new visuals. Skrillex is sure to keep teasing us with singles in preparation for something big. We’ve seen this plan play out many times before and it’s sure to end in a big reward for EDM fans everywhere.
