The Zookies strain is a beautiful creation from Alien Labs that crosses Animal Cookies with Original Glue. This is a strain that looks gorgeous but has a unique terpene profile that isn’t necessarily super loud. Those looking for a strain that might produce a manageable, relaxing, and euphoric high will enjoy this cultivar.
Looking at the Zookies strain, it’s apparent why the genetics have gained substantial popularity in the last year or so. The nugs showcase a healthy coating of trichomes with a bed of crystals underneath. Sticky and dense to the touch, I saw diverse coloration from the various shades of green to the dark orange pistils. On the nose, Zookies has a sweet and floral aroma that erupts once you open the jar. Cracking a nug open releases a nutty and diesel-like stench that will widen your eyes and reveal spots of purple.
The dominant terpenes in the Zookies strain are caryophyllene, limonene, and humulene. This combination of terps could take the flavor a number of ways. The more I dug into the scent of the buds, the more I picked up an earthy, herby musk that took over most sweetness. Caryophyllene and humulene might work together to affect the high of the Zookies by amplifying pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects. Limonene might be adding to any uplifting and anxiety/stress-relieving feelings a few hits might give.
Zookies Strain by Ember Valley
When I first broke down some of Ember Valley’s Zookies strain into my bong and took a rip, the flavor caught me off-guard. There were more earthy and woody flavors on the smoke than there were notes of cookies or sweet citrus. I think this cut of Zookies may take more after its Animal Cookies parent than the Original Glue. A stronger presence of Original Glue in the genetics might have brought out more of a floral, candylike flavor.
After the initial rip of Ember Valley’s Zookies, the high didn’t smack me in the face. In my video review below, I talk about how the high might be a creeper. On my second hit, I picked up what almost seemed like pure, spicy caryophyllene notes. Not long after finishing my review, I found the relaxing and euphoric qualities of the strain to steadily come to my attention.
Ultimately, I landed at an 8.5 out of 10 for this review. Considering the smoothness of the smoke and Ember Valley’s consistency to quality products and packaging, I felt this was an appropriate score. Watch my video review and check out the full scorecard below.
