While fans wait for his much-anticipated debut album No Love In LA, Justin Hale drops his FORYOU EP. A collection of 5 previously released tracks with a better mix. Including a bonus track for the OG fans, Justin hopes his fans can vibe to these, and smoke a few blunts, as he works tirelessly to deliver his debut album.
If you remember how these tracks originally sounded you’ll really appreciate the quality of them now. You can’t help but give a huge shout out to 5th (@5thLxtter) Justin’s main producer. Cuts like “Crush” and “405” bang through the headphones with moody confidence. You are reminded just what makes this guy special and why you became a fan in the first place.
Not only is his sound inventive, but the content within it tells a story too. Take “405” and “Crush” as an example. Two separate songs, but together they create a unified story derived from Justin’s past. You see him driving the 405 north to see someone he was pursuing at the time and how that feels. Fast forward and now its more than a crush, he describes how that makes him feel and what to do with it.
Other notables tracks are, my personal favorite, “Shade” and “How Deep.” “Shade” is the middle finger of this EP, a venom-filled track calling out haters and fakes. “How Deep” is probably the most interesting track off the EP. Featuring a droney and repetitive hook, this may not be his most lyrical track. But, it possesses this entrancing quality that reminds me of Kanye’s 2008 release 808s & Heartbreak.
Even though these are all previously released tracks, the FORYOU EP still shows incredible growth in Justin Hale’s music career. A clear depiction of why he is one of the PNW’s fastest rising stars and all the more reason to look forward to his debut album No Love In LA.
