Tacoma maybe be Seattle’s forgotten neighbor to the south, but don’t kid yourself, the city’s hip-hop talent is undeniable. Artists like Clemm Rishad, Blake Anthony, and Perry Porter are helping to slowly put the scene on mainstream hip-hop’s radar. MKF’s Lewie released his debut project Heartless in February to only further solidify the region’s deep talent pool.
The Heartless EP brings mumble rap swag and delivery with an incredible layer of lyricism that elevates this project above other trendy rappers you may hear on Tik-Tok or SoundCloud. There’s an obvious level of quality apparent through the first listen through and the complexity of the sounds and lyrics only builds through repeated visits.
“Candle Light” featuring Jay Loud has to be the standout track of the album. A wicked banger that starts with crowds running from gunshots, the hook will catch you quick and undoubtedly end up in your next playlist creation.
Candle light candle light, ima fire on some candle light shit
“Candle Light” chorus
While the album has the vibes of something you could easily hear in the club on Friday night, there are lyrics and stories that reflect on more serious topics than just getting money and girls.
