We all can relate to Saturday morning cartoons, posted in front of the tv, with a bowl of fire ass cereal. A lot of us still be like that on some Saturdays. We just have a different kind of fire in the pot now with it. Kabwasa draws inspiration for his track “Is You Is” from one of the Saturday morning cartoon classics. Tom and Jerry drew inspiration from swing/blues “King of The Jukebox” Louis Jordan.
This up-tempo and jazzy tune remixes the classic hit from the Jordan. Keeping true to the roots, Kabwasa incorporates a myriad of live instruments that puts you right on Bourbon Street. Featuring everything from piano, classic horns, drums, bass, even the occasional record scratch. My favorite part of the song comes at the 1:15-1:35 mark. Everything mellows down for a bit. All but the baseline and drums, and its just Kabwasa laying down bars before going back into his smooth and more sped-up rendition of the renown line. “Is you is or is you is ain’t my baby.”
Really a simple question, but, in the world of games people play today, it could be made complicated. Our boy just wants to know if the girl he’s talking to is really down for him but can’t seem to get a straight answer. Time for an answer Felicia, otherwise… BYE!
