Drinks were flowing, and the party was definitely going. This past Saturday I had the pleasure of basking in the sun, sounds and savory offerings provided by Papa Bueno Tequila at their 2017 Seafair Party dubbed “Daylight, Dark Night & Blue Skies”. I am a relatively new transplant here in Seattle so I was lacking a clue as to what I was getting myself into. Admittedly, I also had no clue what Seafair was. If I wanted to, I could have bothered to research both the event and the “holiday”, but I thought it fun to go at it blind. For those of you who are like me, and have no clue what Seafair is and why it exists, here’s a blurb from their site:
A Pacific Northwest tradition since 1950, Seafair Weekend is the culmination of the Seafair Festival. Dubbed by some as an unofficial Seattle holiday, this is the most anticipated event of summer. Seafair Weekend offers a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds, tastes and action. With boat racing on the water, aerobatic performers in the sky, live music and delicious food on land, the best place to experience Seafair Weekend is on Lake Washington!
RMR and 1Take Studios arrived on the scene shortly after the festivities kicked off. Upon arriving at the super-chill mansion, guests were greeted by a trailer that had been converted into a photo booth. The photo trailer fully decked out and staged with Papa Bueno keepsakes was a great intro. I, regrettably, didn’t take any photos inside the booth (see, how my outfit and the heat were set up – though), but saw some great shots online on BooBooLaLa’s Facebook page.
The entry was adorned in Papa Bueno garb and just past the front gate was a check in desk where we spent a moment figuring out our admittance situation. We received access and crept around the side path after being greeted by a group of young ladies accepting charitable donations — after all this was for a good cause. Proceeds and donations were collected to aid local food programs plus economic support and assistance to the people of the Himalayas.
The party was alive and thriving by the time we arrived everyone was enjoying their food, drinks, and music blanketing the entire back yard. I can only liken it to a tropical oasis in the middle of Seattle. There was a lot to take in – a pool, a photo wall, two food areas (one for light snacks and the other with fresh Mexican food), two open bars, a stage, and to top it off a deck with direct access to Lake Washington where we were able to witness all the majestic aero-tricks of the Blue Angels.
Caleb Jermaine was the first musical guest of the day. Jermaine looked the picture perfect part of a Pop/R&B heartthrob with his curls and cut on fleek and his ultra-appropriate white linen shirt and baby blue short set. Needless to say, he put it down! Peep a live feed of his set here:
Caleb wasn’t the only thing popping that night. A DJ set played during the stage setup for BooBooLaLa. More about them in a second, though. I stand impressed by whatever automated setlist roared through the speakers. With such quality music, dancing, and drinking took over. A couple rounds of tequila were in order. I was eager to try Papa Bueno which I hadn’t since moving to Seattle in January. Hell, I even did a Ski Shot with JayPing just for the hell of it!
The gang and I took a few blunt breaks in between to stay “inspired”. I’m positive we weren’t the only cannabis connoisseurs there. I spotted the owner of Two Five Trees repping the cannabis industry there as well. Final shots of Papa Bueno Tequila are like the icing on the cake so perfectly baked (pun intended). The band BooBooLaLa played on as the sun set. I wish I had footage of them, but by the time they were playing everyone had various influences.
It was a night I won’t forget and I’m grateful to everyone from the amigos at Papa Bueno. Check out photos from the party below, and look for more coverage on social media including our gallery on Facebook.
