I’m not a very big festival person. The big crowds, obnoxious over do-ers, the feeling of being herded like cattle, it’s just not my scene. Capitol Hill Block Party has been warming up to me though. After going to Upstream in May, I think I’m ready to hit another major festival.
Sorry George, but you probably won’t ever see me at the Gorge. The urban terrain is the most appealing part of this festival, I’m just happier in the city. So follow my #SeattleLife, as I open up to festival life and figure out exactly what’s going on at Capitol Hill Block Party.
The amount of stages, the number of artists you want to see, and overlapping set times can be overwhelming. Just because I don’t attend festivals doesn’t mean I don’t know how to make the most of my time there. I’ve scoped out the daily lineups and have planned out my Block Party weekend.
Cap Hill Block Party Schedule: Friday
Surprisingly I’m not going to start off Block Party with hip-hop! Lucy Dacus is an indie folk rock girl from Virginia with an upbeat sound. She kicks off the entire weekend being the first performer to play at 4pm on the main stage.
After her, another talented lady will take the main stage quarter after 5pm. Noname is a soulful poetic rapper from Chicago who dropped her debut mixtape ‘Telefone’ less than a year ago. Reaching the million plays club, she gained hundreds of thousands of fans seemingly overnight. She completely sold out her first tour, and can’t keep any merch in her store. Noname is the #1 artist I’m looking forward to seeing.
I’ll be catching the last bit of local indie rock group Fauna Shade’s set on the Neumos stage at 6pm. Which will lead me into the tremendously funky Thundercat on the main stage at 6:30. Popping over to the Neumos stage for the Theoretics set then down to the Barboza stage to see Scarlet Parke for some bluesy pop at 7:30.
It’s tricky balancing overlapping set times. I’ll also be splitting times between Gifted Gab and Nick Weaver’s set between 8:15-9pm. Giving me time to re-cooperate and grab some food before ending my night with Run the Jewels at 10:45!
