Tom Wilson and Tom Pepe both hail from Seattle, Washington, but these days the KnowMads make their music basking in the Los Angeles sunshine. The duo continues evolving as artists, Rapping on new beats, adding lyrical styles to their belts, and a surplus of Vitamin D has uplifted their sound for their new mixtape, ‘Los Angeles.’
The KnowMads continue to be some of the most heartfelt rappers in the game, telling stories of their struggles with relationships, sobriety, the state of the rap game, and their place in the music industry. No matter what style of beat they rap over, the honest lyricism shines through.
The KnowMads have a knack of experimenting with beats and flows on their free projects, and that time in the studio pays off when it’s time to record an album. ‘Los Angeles’ is no different, Pepe and Cheef rap over beats from a wide range of artists: Kendrick Lamar, Hippie Sabotage, Mike Beatz, Kreatiff, and Gemitaiz just to name a few.
‘Los Angeles’ is their latest full release since their album ‘Knew School’ dropped last July. The mixtape is made of several singles that were released on their SoundCloud account, as well as a gang of new releases, bringing the track total to 21.
This whole project delivers: Whether it’s Pepe venting frustrations to industry rappers over heavy bass in ‘Everything,’ Cheef’s inspirational ripping in the opening verse of ‘Buckets,’ Cheef and Pepe’s back to back kill shot on Kendrick’s ‘Humble,’ or the conscious psychedelic journey through society Pepe takes you on in ‘God,” the sequel track to ‘Pick Me Apart.’
Los Angeles has something for original KnowMads fans and newcomers alike.
