After months of anticipation, the announcement you have all been waiting for is here…. I’m coming out of retirement!
Not since Paradiso 2015 have I been to a single music festival. Since that was over a year ago, I think it’s time for a comeback. Honestly, I couldn’t have picked a better show to come back for because it’s the 20th anniversary of Freaknight Festival.
With Zedd, Armin Van Buuren, Martin Garrix, Getter, Tchami, Galantis, Paul Van Dyk, Flux Pavilion, 3LAU, and Jamie Jones recently announced, this lineup is stacked with fire artists who will tear up the Tacoma Dome.
The release of the Phase One lineup also means it’s time to start the first stages of planning. This year’s festival will be held on October 28th and 29th. As a self-proclaimed festival veteran, trust me when I say that you do not want those dates to roll up without having an outfit, tickets, and some extra money.
To celebrate the end of my festival retirement, here is some helpful advice for organizing your ultimate Freaknight experience:
Step 1: Squad up!
The single most important thing when going to festivals is who you go with. The more people you invite into your group, the more opinions and the more personalities you will have to balance.
“What’s taking Becky so long to get ready?”
“I thought you were calling the Uber!?”
“Bass stage!” “No, mainstage!”
“Becky, that’s not PLUR!”
“Where should we meet if we get separated?”
“Guys, we lost Becky!”
Believe me, the festival environment can bring out the best and worst in people, especially if your group has a ‘Becky.’ Don’t let unnecessary drama ruin your night. Choose your squad wisely because it can make or break your experience.
Step 2: Buy your tickets ASAP!
Tickets are on sale Friday, August 19th and they start at a whopping $180 with prices set to increase as we approach October. Avoid the service fees by physically removing yourself from your couch and heading to the Freaknight Festival retail outlet that is closest to you.
If you are feeling like a baller this year, consider purchasing a VIP experience, complete with special VIP entry into the festival, access into private lounges and viewing areas, Freaknight swag, and more. If not, payment plans are available until August 31st. For more information on tickets, click here.
Step 3: Find Accommodations
After two nights of raging, you are going to need some place to rest. If you’re lucky enough to call Tacoma home, (which is not something I ever thought I would say), this shouldn’t be an issue. The rest of us who don’t want to spend hundreds in daily transportation fees, have to consider where we’re going to stay.
I suggest browsing through AirBnB or CouchSurfing.com. When choosing your accommodations, these are the factors you may want to consider:
- Sleeping arrangements: because in groups, couples by default tend to claim the beds, and if you’re like me, you are not in a good enough financial standing to afford a bed for a night.
- WiFi: because you’re going to need to watch your Snapchat story to relive all your Freaknight shenanigans and delete everything that is embarrassing or scandalous enough to get you fired.
- Bathroom quantity and size: because one bathroom split between six people can be harrowing when you need to poop and all the girls are contouring their cheekbones in the mirror.
- Neighbors: because face it, you’re going to get a little rowdy and the neighbors will definitely complain.
- Spiders: because the less you’re willing to spend for the 5-star hotel, the more likely there will be spiders by your bedside and some stains on the mattress.
Step 4: But what am I going to wear?
If the process of assembling your outfits is more than buying pasties, start brainstorming now.
We’ve all already seen cops, witches, and zombies so try and think outside the box. Collaborating with your friends or significant other for a group costume is worth it for the Instagram pictures alone. Just imagine the look on people’s faces when your squad rolls up like a polygamist cult or the entire Kardashian family. Just make sure you’re comfortable because more often then not, you are going to get hot and your feet are going to hurt.
Step 5: Fund your Freaknight
Funding your full Freaknight experience will cost you. How are you going to pay for all of this?! I mentioned before about USC Events offering payment plans for tickets.
To pay for the rest of your expenses, you always have these options: selling your valuables, working more hours, or clicking here.
