The October 11 event began at 6:30 PM with a live discussion hosted by MC Mike Nishimura, giving attendees a chance to hear directly from one of the producers involved in bringing the franchise to life. Shida’s history with Gundam goes back more than two decades. After joining Sunrise in 2001, she worked in setting production on Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny before taking on planning producer roles for projects including Gundam Build Fighters and Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom.

Her involvement also extends beyond traditional anime production, including the stage adaptation of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Gundam Factory Yokohama, the project featuring a moving life size Gundam in Japan.

During the discussion, Shida reflected on the journey from Seed Destiny to Seed Freedom, explaining how the team develops production materials, including mobile suit designs, and how the team approached bringing the story back nearly 20 years after its previous major chapter. The conversation gave fans insight into the creative work behind the characters, mechanical designs, and action sequences that have helped define the franchise.

Shida also discussed the technological advancements that have helped the production team create more dynamic mobile suit battles.

“We were able to take advantage of many new technologies developed over the past two decades to create exciting and dynamic mobile suit action. I hope fans will pay close attention to how these new animation techniques have been brought to life in this film.”

With the franchise known for its elaborate mobile suit combat and character driven storytelling, Freedom Zero looks to expand on the events that connect two important installments in the series.
