NFL Power Rankings 2026: Ranking All 32 Teams Entering the First Full Sunday of the Season

These rankings combine recent performance, quarterback play, roster depth, coaching, injuries and the expectations established by national analysts and sportsbooks.

The 2026 NFL season is officially underway, but most of the league has yet to play its opening game. Seattle began its championship defense with a difficult 13-10 victory over New England, while San Francisco delivered the first major statement of the season by beating the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 in Australia.

The betting market is useful, but it is not treated as the final authority. BetMGM entered the season with the Rams as its Super Bowl favorite at approximately +600, followed by Buffalo at +1000 and Baltimore and Seattle around +1100. FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars Sportsbook and Fanatics Sportsbook have posted their own futures and win totals, with meaningful differences developing across the market.

Respect My Region also published a complete 2026 NFL season prediction and Super Bowl contender guide before kickoff. This ranking builds upon that preseason outlook while beginning to account for what has happened on the field.

1. Seattle Seahawks

The defending Super Bowl champions retain the top position after surviving New England in the opener.

Seattle did not play its cleanest football, but championship teams are not required to dominate every week. The Seahawks intercepted Drake Maye three times in the fourth quarter and escaped with a 13-10 victory despite losing starting quarterback Sam Darnold during the game.

The defense remains the foundation. Until another team proves it has a more complete combination of coaching, personnel and late-game composure, Seattle deserves the benefit of the doubt.

2. San Francisco 49ers

No team made a stronger opening statement than San Francisco.

The 49ers dismantled the Rams 27-7 in Australia, controlling a matchup against the team most sportsbooks had favored to win Super Bowl LXI. One performance does not guarantee that San Francisco will remain healthy or consistent, but beating an elite divisional opponent by 20 points demands an immediate rise.

Before the game, NFL.com placed San Francisco outside its highest tier. The 49ers already gave voters a reason to reconsider.

3. Buffalo Bills

Buffalo enters another season with legitimate championship expectations and another opportunity to escape the AFC playoff disappointment that has defined its recent history.

Josh Allen remains one of the NFL’s most valuable players, while new head coach Joe Brady inherits a team that does not need a complete rebuild. Buffalo added DJ Moore to an offense that needed another proven playmaker and overhauled its defense under coordinator Jim Leonhard.

NFL.com, CBS Sports and Pro Football Focus each placed the Bills inside or near their top five before Week 1. The Athletic’s projection of approximately 10.8 victories also placed Buffalo among the league’s strongest regular-season teams.

4. Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore possesses the quarterback, running game and defensive identity required to reach the Super Bowl.

The question is no longer whether Lamar Jackson can lead an elite regular-season offense. It is whether the Ravens can avoid the postseason mistakes that have repeatedly ended promising campaigns.

DraftKings and BetMGM both placed Baltimore among the shortest Super Bowl prices entering the season. That respect is justified, but the Ravens must finally turn January potential into February football.

5. Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia remains one of the NFL’s most complete rosters.

The Eagles have invested heavily in the offensive and defensive lines, retained an established quarterback and built an offense capable of winning through multiple styles. BetMGM listed Philadelphia’s regular-season win total at 11.5, placing the Eagles in the league’s highest tier.

The NFC East is rarely predictable, but Philadelphia enters the season with fewer structural weaknesses than most contenders.

6. Los Angeles Rams

The Rams entered Week 1 as the Super Bowl favorite and left Australia with one of the worst performances of the opening week.

A 27-7 loss does not erase the talent throughout the roster, but it exposed legitimate concerns. Aaron Donald did not play in the opener, and NFL Network subsequently reported that Myles Garrett would undergo knee surgery and miss at least four games.

Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford deserve enough respect to prevent an overreaction. Still, the Rams cannot remain No. 1 after losing by 20 points and absorbing another major defensive injury.

7. Houston Texans

Houston may have the defense most capable of disrupting the AFC hierarchy.

The Texans strengthened the offense by adding David Montgomery and addressing parts of the offensive line. CBS Sports noted that Houston’s defense remained among the league’s best when analyzing its Week 1 matchup with Buffalo.

The Texans do not need to become the league’s most explosive offense. If they can protect the quarterback, run effectively and avoid turnovers, their defense can keep them in contention against anyone.

8. Denver Broncos

Denver is coming off a season in which it repeatedly found ways to win close games.

That success deserves respect, but it also creates a warning. The Broncos finished 11-2 in one-score games, a rate that will be difficult to reproduce. Bo Nix now enters a pivotal third season with greater expectations and less room for inconsistency.

BetMGM positioned Denver’s win total at 9.5. That feels appropriate for a talented playoff contender that still needs to prove last season was sustainable.

9. Detroit Lions

Detroit has spent aggressively to keep its competitive window open.

The Lions committed more than $1 billion in contracts and extensions across the previous two years, creating clear expectations for a return to the playoffs. ESPN and Sports Illustrated both ranked Detroit eighth entering Week 1, while other outlets expressed concern about injuries and depth in the secondary.

The offense should remain productive. Detroit’s ceiling will be determined by the health of its defense and offensive line.

10. Green Bay Packers

Green Bay remains dangerous because of its roster depth and ability to develop young players.

The Packers’ 9.5-win total at BetMGM places them directly in the playoff conversation. They may not possess the same star power as the highest-ranked teams, but they have enough talent on both sides of the ball to compete for the NFC North.

The primary question is whether Green Bay can transform a promising roster into a consistently elite team.

11. Kansas City Chiefs

Ranking Kansas City outside the top 10 would feel irresponsible as long as Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are together.

The Chiefs enter the season with more uncertainty than usual. Mahomes is returning from an ACL injury, the offensive line has concerns at left tackle and the secondary includes several unproven pieces. NFL.com and The Athletic ranked Kansas City 14th entering Week 1, while CBS Sports placed the Chiefs 12th.

BetMGM’s 10.5-win total shows that sportsbooks still expect Kansas City to contend. The roster may not be dominant, but Mahomes gives the Chiefs a ceiling few teams can match.

12. Cincinnati Bengals

Joe Burrow keeps Cincinnati in the championship conversation.

The Bengals have spent several seasons asking their offense to overcome defensive limitations. If the defense becomes merely average, Cincinnati can threaten every AFC contender. If it remains one of the league’s weakest units, Burrow will once again be forced to win shootouts.

This is a talented but unbalanced team with one of football’s best quarterbacks.

13. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have won 11 games in consecutive seasons yet continue to receive surprisingly modest national respect.

NFL.com ranked Los Angeles 16th entering Week 1, below several teams that finished with worse records in 2025. The skepticism will continue until Justin Herbert and the Chargers win a postseason game, but their regular-season consistency should not be ignored.

A convincing start could move Los Angeles into the top 10 quickly.

14. Dallas Cowboys

Dallas improved its defense during the offseason and enters 2026 with legitimate NFC East expectations.

The Cowboys have enough offensive talent to win double-digit games, but they must prove their offseason changes will translate against quality opponents. A Week 1 game against the Giants gives Dallas an opportunity to establish control immediately.

The talent is there. Trusting the Cowboys to deliver consistently remains the difficult part.

15. Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota enters the season with a strong roster and uncertainty at the most important position.

The Vikings’ defense and supporting offense should keep them competitive, but quarterback performance will determine whether they contend for the NFC North or settle into the wild-card chase.

BetMGM listed Minnesota at 9.5 wins, with the under initially carrying the heavier price. That reflects a team with playoff-level talent but a wider range of possible outcomes.

16. Chicago Bears

Chicago has enough young talent to remain relevant, even if expectations have cooled.

Caleb Williams is still capable of becoming one of the NFL’s more dynamic quarterbacks, and Ben Johnson gives the Bears a respected offensive coach. The question is whether the roster is ready to withstand a more difficult schedule and the adjustments opponents will make.

Chicago belongs in the middle of the league until Williams proves the offense can perform consistently.

17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay enters 2026 with continuity at quarterback after extending Baker Mayfield.

The Buccaneers are not loaded at every position, but they have enough experience to compete in the NFC South. Their Week 1 matchup with Cincinnati will immediately test whether the offense can keep pace with an elite quarterback.

BetMGM placed Tampa Bay’s win total at 9.5. That number captures a team with a realistic path to the playoffs but a difficult route to the Super Bowl.

18. New England Patriots

New England nearly ruined Seattle’s championship celebration.

The Patriots led the defending champions before Maye threw three fourth-quarter interceptions. The 13-10 defeat demonstrated that New England can compete with an elite team, but it also showed how quickly late-game mistakes can erase three quarters of strong football.

The Patriots fall slightly because of the loss, although the performance was more encouraging than the final result.

19. Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh rarely collapses because its defense and coaching provide a reliable baseline.

The larger concern is whether the offense can produce enough explosive plays to compete with the strongest teams in the AFC. FanDuel installed Pittsburgh as a clear favorite over Atlanta in Week 1, while BetMGM set its season total at 8.5 wins.

That market projection feels familiar: competitive, difficult to play against and probably somewhere near the postseason bubble.

20. Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville has a favorable opening matchup and an opportunity to begin rebuilding its credibility.

FanDuel listed the Jaguars as an 8.5-point favorite over Cleveland, one of the largest spreads of Week 1. That number says as much about the Browns as it does about Jacksonville, but it still shows a meaningful gap between the teams.

The Jaguars need to prove they can handle an opponent they are expected to beat.

21. Washington Commanders

Washington is a difficult team to place because its best version belongs considerably higher.

The Commanders possess enough offensive firepower to challenge Philadelphia and Dallas, but their ability to defend consistently remains uncertain. BetMGM listed Washington’s win total at 9.5, indicating legitimate postseason expectations.

A Week 1 game against Philadelphia provides an immediate measurement of how close Washington is to the NFC’s upper tier.

22. Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis has the offensive line and running game to remain competitive.

The health of Daniel Jones and the development of the passing attack will determine whether the Colts can outperform their 7.5-win total. CBS Sports identified Indianapolis as an attractive Week 1 underdog because of its rushing attack, offensive line and capable defense.

This is not a spectacular roster, but it may be more balanced than its ranking suggests.

23. Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders begin the Kubiak era with Cousins at quarterback, Jeanty leading the backfield and Mendoza developing behind them.

Las Vegas is favored by approximately three points against Miami, but Bowers’ knee injury removes its most dangerous receiving weapon from the opener. The Raiders’ official injury report ruled Bowers out while clearing Jeanty after a full week of practice.

The RMR Raiders-Dolphins game preview breaks down why the running game and Crosby’s pressure against Willis could decide the opener.

Las Vegas is more stable than the teams at the bottom, but this remains a rebuilding roster.

24. Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta continues to possess intriguing individual talent without a fully convincing team identity.

The Falcons must become more consistent at quarterback and along the line of scrimmage. FanDuel placed Pittsburgh as a 6.5-point favorite in the opener, suggesting the market sees a meaningful gap between Atlanta and an established defensive team.

The Falcons can outperform this ranking, but they need to show it.

25. Tennessee Titans

Tennessee enters 2026 with modest expectations and significant pressure on its developing offense.

BetMGM’s 6.5-win total positioned the Titans near the bottom of the AFC. A winnable opening game against the Jets gives Tennessee an opportunity to begin the season with momentum.

The Titans are not without talent, but they do not yet have enough proven strengths to rank higher.

26. New Orleans Saints

New Orleans enters the season with one of the league’s lowest projected win totals.

BetMGM placed the Saints at 4.5 victories, although the over carried a significant price. That suggests bookmakers expect New Orleans to exceed four wins without necessarily becoming a playoff contender.

The Saints need young players to develop quickly and their defense to keep games manageable.

27. Carolina Panthers

Carolina has spent multiple seasons attempting to build a dependable offense around Bryce Young.

The quarterback has shown flashes, but the Panthers need those flashes to become sustained production. A Week 1 meeting with Chicago should reveal whether Carolina has improved its protection and created enough explosive opportunities.

The Panthers have upset potential, but their margin for error remains narrow.

28. New York Giants

The Giants are entering another season under pressure.

Their defense has enough individual talent to disrupt opponents, but the offense must prove it can consistently score. BetMGM listed New York at 5.5 wins, keeping the Giants closer to the bottom of the league than the playoff race.

A divisional opener against Dallas could either quiet some of the skepticism or intensify it immediately.

29. New York Jets

New York remains one of the league’s most difficult teams to trust.

The Jets have individual talent, but their quarterback situation and overall roster construction leave too many unanswered questions. BetMGM’s 6.5-win total came with the under priced as the more likely outcome.

They can win games with defense, but there is little evidence that the offense can sustain success.

30. Cleveland Browns

Cleveland traded Myles Garrett and enters the season without the defensive player who previously gave the roster its identity.

CBS Sports described the Browns as a team to fade early, pointing to uncertainty surrounding Deshaun Watson, a young receiving group and a defense adjusting to life without Garrett.

Being an 8.5-point underdog in Jacksonville illustrates how far Cleveland’s perception has fallen.

31. Arizona Cardinals

Arizona enters Week 1 as one of the largest underdogs on the board.

FanDuel listed the Cardinals as 8.5-point underdogs against the Chargers. Arizona will need its young roster to develop faster than expected, especially around veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

The Cardinals may be competitive in individual games, but the overall roster still looks incomplete.

32. Miami Dolphins

Miami occupies the bottom position because this season appears designed more around evaluation than immediate contention.

The Dolphins replaced their head coach, quarterback and several of their most recognizable offensive players. Willis and Achane give Miami real speed, but the supporting roster is young and relatively unproven.

CBS Sports placed Miami last in its opening rankings, while sportsbooks made the Dolphins road underdogs against a Raiders team that finished 3-14 last season. Miami can climb quickly with a win in Las Vegas, but it begins the season with the league’s largest collection of unanswered questions.

The 2026 NFL Hierarchy Is Already Moving

Seattle remains No. 1 because it is the defending champion and opened with a victory. San Francisco made the biggest jump after dominating the preseason Super Bowl favorite, while the Rams absorbed the largest fall.

The next movement will come after the first full Sunday and Monday night games. Buffalo-Houston, Washington-Philadelphia, Green Bay-Minnesota and Denver-Kansas City should provide the most useful information about the league’s contender tier.

Power rankings are not standings, and sportsbook prices are not predictions carved into stone. They are snapshots of how teams are viewed at a particular moment.

The first two games of 2026 have already demonstrated how quickly that view can change.
