Editor’s note: Futures odds and win totals change throughout the season. The numbers referenced below were available in August 2026. This article is for informational and entertainment purposes only. If you choose to wager, bet responsibly and only where legal.
The 2026 NFL season hierarchy begins in Los Angeles, but the season is unlikely to remain that simple. The Rams enter September as the clear Super Bowl favorite after pairing the league’s most productive offense with one of its most aggressive offseasons.
The defending NFL champion Seattle Seahawks return almost every starter from a team built around the NFL’s best defense. Buffalo still has Josh Allen. Baltimore still has Lamar Jackson. Kansas City still has Patrick Mahomes.
Behind them, another group is pushing into the championship conversation: Houston, Denver, Detroit, Philadelphia, Chicago and both Los Angeles teams.
That depth is reflected in the betting market. The Rams are the only team priced shorter than +1000 at most sportsbooks, but more than a dozen clubs sit between approximately +1000 and +2500. The market has identified a favorite without declaring the league predictable.
To build RMR’s 2026 NFL projections, we compared sportsbook win totals and futures prices with 2025 efficiency data, roster continuity, quarterback quality, coaching changes and the difference between public reputation and sustainable performance.
Here is where the numbers lead.
What the Sportsbooks Are Saying About the 2026 NFL Season
At BetMGM, Los Angeles owns the NFL’s highest win total at 11.5. Baltimore is also listed at 11.5, followed by Buffalo, Detroit, Kansas City, the Chargers, New England, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle at 10.5.
According to BetMGM’s preseason futures market, the Rams enter the 2026 season as the clear Super Bowl favorite at approximately +500. Buffalo sits next at roughly +1000, with Baltimore and defending champion Seattle close behind at around +1100. Kansas City, the Chargers, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Detroit, and Houston make up the next tier of contenders, although prices will continue to move as Week 1 approaches.
Those numbers are more useful as probability estimates than predictions. A +500 price implies a raw probability of roughly 16.7 percent before accounting for the sportsbook’s margin. In other words, even the clear favorite is considerably more likely to lose the Super Bowl than win it.
The market is not telling bettors that the Rams are inevitable. It is saying Los Angeles has fewer visible weaknesses than anyone else.
That conclusion is supported by the underlying performance data.
According to FOX Sports, the Rams led the NFL in total offense in 2025, averaging 394.6 yards per game. Pro Football Network’s data also credited Los Angeles with 30.5 points per game, 0.15 expected points added per play, and its highest offensive impact grade. The Rams’ defense placed fifth in the same model, giving Los Angeles one of the NFL’s strongest statistical profiles on both sides of the ball.
That is the profile of a legitimate favorite, not merely a popular team with a famous quarterback.
2026 NFL Season Super Bowl Prediction: Los Angeles Rams Over Buffalo Bills
The RMR pick is the Rams over the Bills in Super Bowl LXI.
Los Angeles already had the NFL’s most productive offense before adding Myles Garrett to a defense that ranked fifth in EPA allowed per play in 2025. As detailed by the Rams’ official website, the team also extended Matthew Stafford and selected quarterback Ty Simpson in the first round, giving Sean McVay a long-term succession plan without forcing an immediate change under center.
That does not eliminate the risk.
Stafford’s age and health must be managed. The secondary has undergone changes, and Los Angeles plays in the NFL’s most unforgiving division. Seattle is the defending champion, while San Francisco carries a 10.5-win total and remains dangerous enough to turn every divisional game into a postseason-level test.
The Rams are still the most complete projection because their strengths reinforce one another. Stafford and McVay can create early leads. Garrett and the defensive front can then attack predictable passing situations. That is a formula designed for January football.
Buffalo is our pick to win the AFC because elite quarterback play remains one of the NFL’s most dependable postseason advantages. FOX Sports ranked the Bills fourth in total offense in 2025, while Pro Football Network’s model placed them third in offensive impact and credited them with 0.14 expected points added per play. Only the Rams produced a better EPA-per-play figure in that model.
Joe Brady’s promotion creates a coaching transition, but it also gives Buffalo schematic continuity around Allen. The defense is the larger concern. If the Bills improve from a unit that ranked outside the top group in 2025, Allen has a realistic path to both the AFC championship and another MVP.
Projected Super Bowl LXI result: Rams 30, Bills 27
NFC West: The Best Division in Football
Projected finish
- Los Angeles Rams: 12-5
- Seattle Seahawks: 11-6
- San Francisco 49ers: 10-7
- Arizona Cardinals: 4-13
Seattle should not be treated like an ordinary defending champion. As the Seahawks’ official website noted during the offseason, Seattle returns 20 of 22 starters from the team that finished 14-3 and won Super Bowl LX. Pro Football Network’s 2025 metrics also ranked the Seahawks first in points allowed, defensive EPA per play, and overall defensive impact.
That makes Seattle the most credible threat to the Rams—and potentially a better regular-season value. The Seahawks’ 10.5-win total is a full game lower than Los Angeles’ despite retaining the foundation of a championship roster.
The reason to exercise some caution is the difficulty of repeating defensive dominance. Turnovers, opponent conversion rates, injuries and close-game outcomes can shift rapidly. Seattle also enters the season with a new offensive coordinator, Brian Fleury, although early indications suggest he is retaining important parts of the system rather than installing an entirely new identity.
San Francisco projects as a playoff team but may be squeezed by its surroundings. A 10-win season could still leave the 49ers third in the division.
BetMGM set Arizona’s win total at 3.5, the lowest mark in the NFL entering the 2026 season. The sportsbook priced the over at -145, meaning bettors must pay a premium to back the Cardinals to win at least four games. Even with that market lean, Arizona still profiles as a rebuilding team rather than a serious playoff contender.
AFC East: Buffalo Holds Off New England
Projected finish
- Buffalo Bills: 12-5
- New England Patriots: 10-7
- New York Jets: 6-11
- Miami Dolphins: 4-13
The market offers an important warning about New England.
The Patriots went 14-3 in 2025, yet their 2026 win total is only 10.5—and the under carries the more expensive price at BetMGM. That is a significant correction for a team coming off one of the NFL’s best records.
Pro Football Network’s model rated New England’s 2025 schedule as easier than those faced by most of the AFC’s other leading contenders. The Patriots were still legitimately strong—FOX Sports ranked them third in total offense—but their 14-3 record may have exaggerated the separation between New England and the rest of the conference.
Buffalo has the safer quarterback projection and the higher offensive ceiling. The Patriots remain a playoff-caliber team, but expecting another 14-win season would require nearly every close-game and health variable to break their way again.
Miami is facing the opposite problem. Its 4.5-win total carries heavy pricing toward the under. The market is not merely skeptical; it is signaling the possibility of a season near the bottom of the league.
AFC North: Baltimore’s Ceiling Comes With Real Risk
Projected finish
- Baltimore Ravens: 11-6
- Cincinnati Bengals: 10-7
- Pittsburgh Steelers: 8-9
- Cleveland Browns: 6-11
No team demonstrates the difference between ceiling and certainty better than Baltimore.
The Ravens share the NFL’s highest win total at 11.5, but the under was priced at -155 at BetMGM. That means the sportsbook’s number is high while the market’s expectation is closer to 11 wins than 12.
As confirmed by the Ravens’ official coaching staff announcement, Baltimore enters its first season under Jesse Minter following 18 years with John Harbaugh. The change could bring new energy to a talented roster, but it also introduces uncertainty for a team already priced as a leading contender. The reported season-ending injury to center Danny Pinter adds another concern as Baltimore works through changes along its offensive line.
Cincinnati is the division’s most attractive challenger. Joe Burrow’s MVP price sits around +850 to +900, making him the third choice behind Allen and Jackson at several books. If the Bengals’ defense reaches average, their offense can win the North.
AFC South: Houston’s Defense Gives It the Edge
Projected finish
- Houston Texans: 11-6
- Jacksonville Jaguars: 10-7
- Indianapolis Colts: 8-9
- Tennessee Titans: 6-11
According to FOX Sports, Houston led the NFL in total defense in 2025 by allowing only 277.2 yards per game. Pro Football Network’s broader defensive model also ranked the Texans second in points allowed and defensive EPA per play, trailing only Seattle in both categories.
That defense creates a high floor. The question is whether the offense can move from competent to championship-level.
Jacksonville won 13 games last season, yet its 2026 win total sits at only 9.5 with the under heavily favored. Like New England, the Jaguars are being priced for regression. They remain a likely playoff contender, but the betting market does not expect another 13-win run.
Indianapolis is the division’s sleeper. Although the Colts finished only 8-9, Pro Football Network’s 2025 impact model rated their offense as the second-best unit in the NFL. If Indianapolis can sustain that offensive efficiency while getting even average production from its defense, it could remain in the AFC wild-card race much longer than its preseason futures price suggests.
AFC West: Kansas City Is Still Kansas City
Projected finish
- Kansas City Chiefs: 11-6
- Los Angeles Chargers: 10-7
- Denver Broncos: 10-7
- Las Vegas Raiders: 6-11
Kansas City’s 10.5-win total is shaded toward the under, and its Super Bowl price is longer than NFL fans have become accustomed to seeing. That reflects a poor 2025 betting season in which the Chiefs repeatedly failed to cover as favorites—not the disappearance of Mahomes.
Public bettors frequently pay extra for recognizable brands. Kansas City’s name, quarterback and recent history will continue attracting money even when the underlying number offers little value. The Chiefs can still win the AFC West, but backing them at any price is no longer an automatic decision.
The Chargers and Broncos may offer more regular-season betting value than Kansas City. Pro Football Network ranked Denver’s defense fourth in its 2025 impact model after the Broncos finished 14-3. Meanwhile, BetMGM set the Chargers’ win total at 10.5 with the under priced at -160, a strong indication that the market considers that number slightly inflated.
The Raiders are more interesting than their 5.5-win total suggests, even if they are not ready to contend. CBS Sports identified No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza as Las Vegas’ potential franchise quarterback, although veteran Kirk Cousins could open the season as the starter. Mendoza will have two high-end building blocks in Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty, but the Raiders’ unproven wide-receiver group could limit the offense’s immediate ceiling.
A six-win season with meaningful development from Mendoza would represent progress.
NFC North: Detroit Survives the Deepest Three-Team Race
Projected finish
- Detroit Lions: 11-6
- Green Bay Packers: 10-7
- Chicago Bears: 10-7
- Minnesota Vikings: 8-9
Detroit, Green Bay and Chicago all have a realistic path to the division title.
FOX Sports ranked Detroit fifth and Chicago sixth in total offense during the 2025 season. Pro Football Network’s impact model placed the Lions sixth offensively, while Green Bay finished fifth and generated 0.12 expected points added per play. Those numbers help explain why the NFC North enters 2026 as one of the NFL’s deepest and most competitive divisions.
The separator is Detroit’s proven ability to score consistently without placing every possession on its quarterback.
Chicago is the higher-variance team. The Bears’ win total is 9.5, but the under is favored. Williams has legitimate MVP-level talent and enters Year 2 with Ben Johnson, yet the market may already be charging bettors for the expected breakout.
The Bears can win 11 games. They can also finish third at 9-8 without playing poorly. That is life in the NFC North.
NFC East: Philadelphia’s Balance Wins Out
Projected finish
- Philadelphia Eagles: 11-6
- Dallas Cowboys: 10-7
- New York Giants: 7-10
- Washington Commanders: 7-10
Dallas finished second in total offense last season, but its defense prevented the team from converting production into a deeper run. That imbalance makes the Cowboys dangerous and difficult to trust.
Philadelphia faces transition questions after moving on from A.J. Brown and installing Sean Mannion as offensive coordinator. Even so, NFL.com ranked the Eagles fourth in its August power rankings, pointing to the potential for a more functional offense and another talented defense. With strong line play and organizational stability still in place, Philadelphia remains our pick to win the NFC East.
The Giants are a legitimate wild-card irritant under John Harbaugh, but their 7.5-win total captures the difficulty of making an immediate leap. Washington projects similarly: competitive enough to upset contenders, not complete enough to survive 17 games near the top of the division.
NFC South: Tampa Bay Wins an Unconvincing Race
Projected finish
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 9-8
- Atlanta Falcons: 8-9
- Carolina Panthers: 7-10
- New Orleans Saints: 7-10
The NFC South is the only division without a team carrying a win total of at least nine.
BetMGM set Tampa Bay’s win total at 8.5, with the pricing leaning toward the Buccaneers finishing below that number. Atlanta, Carolina, and New Orleans are each listed at 7.5 wins, reflecting a tightly grouped NFC South without a clear heavyweight rather than a division filled with legitimate contenders
Tampa Bay gets the prediction because it has the clearest route to competent quarterback play and nine victories. That should be enough. This is also the division most likely to produce a champion that finishes barely above .500.
RMR’s 2026 NFL Playoff Predictions
AFC
- Buffalo Bills
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Baltimore Ravens
- Houston Texans
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Denver Broncos
First team out: Jacksonville Jaguars
NFC
- Los Angeles Rams
- Detroit Lions
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Seattle Seahawks
- San Francisco 49ers
- Green Bay Packers
First team out: Chicago Bears
The AFC race projects to be driven by quarterbacks. Allen, Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow and Justin Herbert give five contenders an answer at the league’s most important position. Houston and Denver can enter that group if their offenses adequately support elite defenses.
The NFC race is built differently. The conference’s best teams are more balanced, but its strongest division could eliminate one of its own. Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco may all be among the NFC’s seven best teams, while beating one another enough to sacrifice seeding.
2026 NFL MVP Prediction: Josh Allen
Allen is the betting favorite for a reason.
DraftKings installed Josh Allen as the preseason MVP favorite at approximately +600, according to Squawka, while BetMGM listed him at +650. Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow followed Allen on both boards, with Justin Herbert, Drake Maye, Matthew Stafford, Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, and Caleb Williams forming the next tier of candidates.
MVP voting remains heavily tied to quarterback production and team record. Allen has the individual statistical ceiling, the rushing value and a credible path to the AFC’s No. 1 seed. Buffalo’s offense already ranked among the NFL’s best in 2025, and Brady’s promotion should preserve much of the system around him.
RMR MVP pick: Josh Allen
Best alternative: Joe Burrow
Longer-shot candidate: Caleb Williams
Burrow offers the strongest combination of elite passing ability and a comeback narrative if Cincinnati returns to the top of the AFC North. Williams has a wider range of potential outcomes, but a division title and major statistical jump would place him directly in the conversation.
The Best Value Is Not Always the Most Likely Winner
The Rams are the most likely champion for the 2026 NFL season. That does not automatically make them the best bet.
At +500, bettors are paying for nearly every positive part of the Los Angeles case: the top-ranked offense, Stafford, McVay, Garrett and the possibility of another all-in championship push.
Seattle near +1100 offers a more interesting risk-to-reward profile. The Seahawks are defending champions, return 20 starters and produced the league’s best defense. Buffalo at approximately +1000 also offers a credible route through an AFC without one dominant incumbent.
The teams to approach carefully are those whose 2025 records exceeded their repeatable efficiency.
New England and Jacksonville combined for 27 regular-season wins last year, but both carry substantially lower 2026 expectations. That does not make either team bad. It means the market is already asking whether schedule strength, turnover luck and close-game results can break the same way twice.
Final 2026 NFL Season Predictions
Super Bowl champion: Los Angeles Rams
AFC champion: Buffalo Bills
NFC champion: Los Angeles Rams
NFL MVP: Josh Allen
Offensive Player of the Year: Ja’Marr Chase
Defensive Player of the Year: Myles Garrett
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Fernando Mendoza
Best championship value: Seattle Seahawks
Breakout team: Chicago Bears
Regression candidates: New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars
Worst projected record: Arizona Cardinals
Most competitive division: NFC West
Most unpredictable division: NFC North
The 2026 NFL season begins with the Rams holding the league’s strongest hand, but not an unbeatable one.
Seattle has the defense and continuity to repeat. Buffalo has the quarterback to break through. Baltimore and Cincinnati can reshape the AFC North. Kansas City remains dangerous precisely when public confidence has weakened. Detroit, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston and Denver each possess at least one championship-level unit.
That is what makes this year’s NFL landscape compelling. The analytics establish Los Angeles as the standard. The sportsbooks agree. But the space between “favorite” and “champion” is where an entire season happens.
