Joe’s Buds Dispensary in Syracuse Highlights Local Brands and Real Community Connection

When asked how she’d describe Joe’s Buds, a mainstay in the city of Syracuse, New York, budtender Kim Crosby responds, “like your towny, you know, supermarket or bar essentially.”

And that’s by design, not mistake, considering their goal is to remain as connected to the immediate local area as possible. During a recent episode of The Respect My Region podcast, Crosby broke down just how intricately interconnected Joe’s Buds is to the community in Syracuse purely off of its location.

“You’ve got a community college, you’ve got um a nice neighborhood, you know, like a like a young adult neighborhood, it’s soccer moms,” Crosby said while describing the surrounging area Joes Buds is nestled within. “I mean, you got a little bit of everything around here. So, I see it all. I’m selling weed to a guy who was born in the Great Depression and then 10 minutes later to a soccer mom. You know, it’s it’s pretty wild.”

Considering the diverse foot traffic that frequents the dispensary, Crosby says from explained how how local upstarts help them provide a one-of-a-kind experience for residents of the city from all walks of life.

“We’ve got a lot of great a lot of good uh stuff in here, Crosby said. “A lot of good local farmers. So, we’re super proud of that because we like to keep it local.”

In fact, one of the major brands she highlighted, coming straight out of North Syracuse, Hi Pete, is a somewhat of a Jack of all trades when it comes to product variety.

“They’re right out in North Syracuse, where their central processing is and they do pre-rolls, drinks, flower; they do uh hash, bubble hash—they’re doing big things over there.

Crosby also gave a shout out to Cannalabs, who she praised for supplying Joes Buds with a version of a legacy strain that is top notch for both herself and the clients who grab their products at the dispensary.

“The AK-47 that we have, It’s a guy, it’s all he grows, he’s had the genetics for years and we sell it here and we always sell it in two packs of joints or an ounce,” Crosby said. “And it’s, you know, pretty low in THC. Obviously, we know that doesn’t matter, but it’s some of the best weed I’ve ever smoked in my life. And everybody who buys it has said the same thing.”

“We’re knowledgeable, we’re personable, you know, when when people walk in here, it’s really important to us that they feel like they’re walking into like somewhere like they’ve known us forever,” Crosby said. “We want them to feel welcome and not stupid, because a lot of people do come in here that are elderly, and don’t know what they’re doing and they feel stupid asking the questions and we just try really hard to not let them feel that way.”

In the end though, for someone like Crosby, who initially got her start in the Cannabis industry by working as a confection baker for an edibles company manufacturing gummies, its important to not only host a variety for customers to choose from.

“I want to shout out Alien Labs, we have them, we are the only store in New York that has them as well as Connected and we have just flower from them at the moment,” Crosby said in part.

She added, “The Cherry Octane from Trap to Table, they are really good. Um, it’s a Cherry Octane. It’s a hybrid. A little more Sativa leaning, but it’s really nice. Um, my vape right now is going to have to be the New York Honey. I’m smoking the RTS. It’s a hybrid distillate rosin. And for live rosin or resin, I’m either a big MFNY or I really like Umami.”

And even with all that said, that’s jus tthe tip of the iceberg at Joe’s Buds. To learn more about Syracuse’s premier dispensary, check out the full podcast episode in the video below.
