“How you gon stop SHAD, if you not GOD?” Blockrepp Shad spits on Washington’s Most Wanted newest single.
The two Washington MCs have been instrumental in highlighting the rich, yet often overlooked, musical and cultural landscape of the Pacific Northwest. Mainly under the mainstream radar, artists like Seattle’s Sir Mix-A-Lot, who had a platinum hit “Baby Got Back” in 1992, and Macklemore had bought the area’s attention. But that type of hip-hop didn’t represent the cities’ gritty and raw aspects.
Ca$hier and Blockrepp Shad blend street lyricism with cinematic beats to elevate their careers to the next level while representing where they come from. Without the infrastructure of cities like Los Angeles, Atlanta, or New York, they have built a following without access to major labels. The Pacific Northwest’s unique cultural landscape, combined with the passion and creativity of Seattle’s Most Wanted, helps to position them as leaders of the scene in Washington.

With lyrical testimonies about the struggles, triumphs, and everyday realities, local artists must be respected by national and international audiences. Ca$hier and Blockrepp Shad voice stories that might otherwise go unheard. At the same time, showing the cities’ youth that mutual support drives innovation. Both artists ride hard-hitting tracks, highlighting rapping is more productive, promising, and prolific than illicit activities.
