50 Next Seattle recently released their half hour long video talking about the history of Seattle hip-hop culture. It’s a great insight into what has gotten Seattle this far and what will be needed to continue to make our scene thrive. They talk about the two different sides of the hip hop scene and how artists need to embrace the culture and not get into rap for the commercial side of the business. The community is what makes the hip-hop scene so different then every other genre of music.
Another point that they talk about in the video is that you need to learn the business and find a mentor. I think most artists don’t do this enough, and I think it’s a very valid point. Artists should find someone that has been down the same path as them and take advice from them. It will only help the artist in the long run and help them grow in different aspects of their career.
As always, you can find 50 Next Seattle on their website, Twitter, and Facebook. Take a listen below and let us know what you think about the video in the comments below!
Apparently they don’t want us embedding it on our site, so you can check out the video on the 50 Next Seattle website. You can also check out their previous video and our previous post on 50 Next Seattle Hip-hop Worldwide right here.
