What’s more community focused than a block party? In Seattle, specifically the Capitol Hill neighborhood has celebrated with the community for decades with an annual music and arts festival taking place in the streets of the neighborhood that blends local talents with big names in the industry. Rolling into their 26th year, Capitol Hill Block Party (CHBP) “continues to represent the enduring power of music, art, and community,” said Jason Lajeunesse, CEO of Daydream State, the group behind both CHBP and Day In Day Out Festival. The lineup for the latter was released last month, and now, finally, we have the 2024 Capitol Hill Block Party lineup!
2024 Capitol Hill Block Party Lineup at a Glance
Eight stages spread throughout the Pike and Pine corridor will host over 70 musical performances the weekend of July 19-21. There are two outdoor stages, the Main Stage and the Vera Stage. As well, there are indoor stages at Cha Cha, Wild Rose, Havana, Chophouse Row, Barboza, and the iconic Neumos stage which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
But where to even begin with this lineup? There are the stellar headliners like Grammy award-winning producer Kaytranada, electropop superstar Kim Petras, and the indie-rocker Still Woozy. There are viral sensations like the duos of Joey Valence & Brae and Flyana Boss. Then you have local heavy weights like the dynamic TeZATalks, R&B songstress LIVt, and the not-going-to-be-teenagers-much-longer pop stars THEM. To round it all out, you have dozens of other names that cover a diverse range of musical tastes, ensuring that there’s something for everyone throughout the weekend.
Showcasing the Unique Community
Part of what makes Capitol Hill Block Party stand out from other festivals is the block party aspect of it. Although many other festivals try to incorporate fun activities into their grounds it’s almost always something corny from a big corporate sponsor. CHBP, however, leans into the surrounding businesses and the interests of the community to curate collaborative promotions and sponsored programming like the Capitol Hill Art Walk, On the Block Second Saturdays, and the Battle on the Block skate competition.
Even if you don’t make a plan ahead of time, you can spend the entire weekend wandering aimlessly and still indulge in local food and drinks, art, music, and so much more while connecting with like-minded folks who probably live right around the corner from you, and you never knew it. This environment of being in the streets of the city, diving in and out of treasured venues, eating food from iconic local restaurants, and knowing that your own community is being represented and showcased as part of a nationally recognized festival is what keeps me coming back year after year.
