2026 is set to be a massive year in gaming, with some of the most-anticipated video games slated to come throughout the next 12 months. There will be new hardware releases, particularly from Steam, too. And, unfortunately, all eyes will be on the cost of gaming, with significant price rises on everything from RAM to game pass subscriptions impacting gamers’ pockets. But whatever way we look at it, the year will still be defined by the new games coming onto the market.

We are, of course, spoiled for choice in gaming entertainment.

Within seconds and with little effort, we can start engaging with a game of choice, ranging from AAA titles for consoles to interactive online gaming experiences.

AAA titles for consoles and making plays with live dealer blackjack are two examples.

Indeed, many of us will feel that there are simply too many games out there, and that it’s a question of getting the time to experience them all. Yet, the studios have us in their grasp, and we will fall over ourselves to get our hands on the latest releases coming this year.

Below, we take a look at the top 10 most eagerly-awaited video game releases currently expected for 2026.

Most-Anticipated Video Games for 2026

Grand Theft Auto VI

GTA VI is currently set for a November release, and what else can we say? It’s probably the most eagerly awaited game in history. There’s huge pressure on getting this right, and its performance will impact the industry as a whole.

Marvel’s Wolverine
There is a lot of hope that Insomniac’s take on the Marvel superhero genre can deliver something different. The word is that we are getting a darker and much more brutal single-player action game than what Marvel usually delivers. It should arrive sometime in the fall.

Fable
You get the feeling that Fable is going to be a pivotal title for Xbox’s future. It’s a big fantasy RPG reboot from Playground Games, aiming to revive the series and perhaps the fortunes of Xbox itself. No firm date yet, but Microsoft says it will release at some point in 2026.

Gears of War: E-Day
The sixth Gears game, which will be a prequel that goes back to 14 years before the events of the first title. Origin stories can have mixed results, but there is a lot of confidence that Xbox Game Studios can get this one right.

 Resident Evil Requiem
This one is currently expected to arrive at the end of February 2026.

It’s hard to believe that the release will mark 30 years since the first Resident Evil was released for PlayStation in 1996. It has a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, but it will probably be more of the same, which is not always a bad thing.

PRAGMATA
Arguably joining GTA VI in the most-anticipated stakes, Capcom’s long-gestating sci-fi action adventure has finally got an April release date. It was first announced in 2020, so we have waited a long time for this one. Can it match the hype?

007 First Light
IO Interactive, the team behind Hitman, is also going in on the origin story gamble, this time bringing James Bond in tow for a new adventure of stealth and spycraft. Now dated for May 27, 2026.

Crimson Desert
This one has generated a good bit of buzz, and the word from those who have gotten early previews has been positive. A huge-looking open-world action-adventure from Pearl Abyss, which pivoted from being a prequel to Black Desert Online to a standalone single-player title.

CONTROL Resonant
Control (2019) was one of the best pre-pandemic titles, and Remedy’s follow-up in the Control universe will please the legions of fans who waxed lyrical about its predecessor. Remedy has rushed this out quite quickly since entering development.

Subnautica 2
The third title in the Subnautica series, this one will be set on a new planet and will now offer multiplayer access (up to four players). There were a host of firings and lawsuits during development, which is never a good sign, but Subnautica has plenty of hardcore fans hoping that Unknown Worlds delivers again.

As 2026 approaches, the video game industry is lining up one of its most ambitious release calendars in years. From long-awaited sequels and franchise reboots to entirely new IPs, this next wave of titles reflects how far gaming has evolved as both entertainment and culture.

Studios are taking bigger creative swings, pushing hardware harder, and responding to a player base that expects depth, longevity, and immersive experiences.

If you’re counting down the days to some of the most-anticipated video games like Grand Theft Auto VI or keeping an eye on emerging titles that could surprise the industry.

2026 is shaping up to be a year that redefines expectations.

As release dates approach and more details emerge, gamers will have no shortage of worlds to explore, stories to experience, and communities to engage with across every platform.
