Respect My Region recently had the opportunity to tour one of Washington state’s most respected cannabis brands, Subdued Excitement. Legitimately “Grown Near Canada,” Sub X is a tier 2 cannabis producer/processor located in Ferndale, Washington. Their team is known for consistency and providing cannabis that has been crafted with an attention to detail unrivaled by many in the i502 market.
Being a Tier 2 producer/processor means that their facility can have between 2,000 and 10,000 square feet of dedicated plant canopy. Subdued Excitement works with cannabis both as a grower and as an extractor, recently releasing their “Cold Smoke Concentrates” line into the market.
When we first arrived in Ferndale, Nick Cilhar, one of Sub X’s owners introduced us to their team’s head of marketing and one of their two head growers. Speaking with, Nick, we learned that Subdued Excitement products are 100% pesticide free and currently they have about 20 strains available across Washington. Their team’s branding and overall vibe is that of a true Northwest lifestyle brand, complete with snowboarding, skiing, hiking, and snowmobiling.
We started off the tour in a central room where various types of cannabis was growing in different stages. Their brand is consciously making the effort to minimize environmental impact and opts for a combination of newer tech, updated processes, and old-school passion. While many companies are choosing to stay away from LED lighting, Subdued Excitement is seeing great success. They’re using 50% less wattage and producing 5+ cannabis strains that I personally believe to be some of the best in the state.
With decades of cultivation experience and genetics from the best cannabis breeders in the world, is it really any surprise Subdued Excitment has numerous products that should be in the conversation for “best in Washington state.” Hand-trimmed and hand-watered, their cannabis comes coated in trichomes and is almost always extremely sticky and flavorful.
I can confidently say that five Sub X strains outperform almost every “top-shelf” strain on the market.
