Raise your hand if you have produced a track for 50 Cent. I see only one Northwest artist with their hand in the air right now; Portland’s own, Trox. Needless to say, Trox landing a deal with this eight time platinum artist is a huge step for him as a producer and shows us all that a little perseverance goes a long way. “I was persistent with his A&R’s and developed a good relationship. Dré and Tony are good people,” says Trox, explaining how this opportunity came about. “50 is mad cool. He cracks hella jokes.” The video to “NY”, 50 Cent’s song produced by Trox, was released a couple of days ago, and the track is great! You can view it below.
In light of the recent “Portland Has A Hip-Hop Problem” article that has been floating around the past couple of days, (which I would encourage you to read here), I think it’s important that we recognize how well some of Portland’s hip-hop artists are doing. Even coming from a community that might not be the most supportive of hip-hop, artists like Trox are still striving to make great music, and that is dedication.
